Games on Steam: Short & Sweet

Games on Steam is a weekly installment that tackles this popular platform’s latest and greatest Indie games. Today, we put our focus on shorter titles that, nevertheless, have much to offer.

You Will (Not) Remain

To start, we have a well-crafted Lovecraftian visual novel inspired by current times. In YWNR, you are confined to your apartment as the city around you slowly falls apart. Soon, your sense of time starts dissipating and weird things begin to happen that make you question your sanity. YWNR explores the problems that many of us are experiencing right now, which makes it gripping and unnervingly relatable.

Electrician Simulator: First Shock

If fixing a power socket makes you feel uneasy, you might want to brush up your skills with Electrician Simulator. In it, your dad shows you how to solve many tasks, such as changing chandeliers, assembling panels, fixing appliances, and more. The game seems realistic while adding some fun elements as not to be overly technical. Overall, First Shock is a cool prologue that does a lot of things right and is also free to play.

Heaven Dust 2

Heaven Dust 2 is a top-down horror shooter inspired by the likes of Silent Hill and Resident Evil.  You wake up from a cryogenic pod only to find that the deadly virus has spread and you are surrounded by zombies. Your only hope is to pick up the guns and blast their brains into neverland. To survive, you will also have to solve engaging puzzles and constantly modify your weapons. The combat is very fun, and the game has some satisfying boss fights that will keep you going. All in all, Heaven Dust 2 is impressive and definitely an improvement over the original.

Fears to Fathom – Norwood Hitchhike

Next, we have the second episode of a promising psychological horror game. Norwood Hitchhike follows Holly, a young lady who gets stranded in the middle of nowhere and has to stay in a shady motel. A tense atmosphere is set from the beginning, and it builds slowly but steadily throughout the episode. While short, Norwood Hitchhike is a strong continuation of a series that'll have 2 more sequels.

MAFIA: Family's Secret

To finish this edition, we have a fun top-down shooter. MAFIA takes place in the '50s and follows the story of a powerful Guidice family. The game expertly mixes a complex storyline with hectic and dynamic action, which captured my attention. In many ways, MAFIA is like a compact version of Hotline Miami that can easily entertain you for an hour or two.
