5 Lives Studios, the firm behind Windbound and Satellite Reign, has teased the outlines of its next IP—a top-down adventure game called Cozy Caravan. Due to enter its Early Access phase in Q1 2024, the game promises to deliver a wholesome story-driven experience—a journey in which “the arts of crafting, trading, and exploration come together in a beautifully cozy world.” Think Animal Crossing, only with a traveling salesperson for a protagonist, and you’ll have a rough idea of what it’s aiming to capture.

Cozy Caravan isn’t due out for a short while yet, but if the opening details have caught your interest, then be sure to read on for all the latest updates. Here’s everything we can tell you about 5 Lives Studios’ upcoming release.

What Is Cozy Caravan?

Character cooking in Cozy Caravan

In a nutshell, Cozy Caravan is an upcoming top-down, third-person adventure game in which players will venture from one town to the next in their trusty caravans, selling general wears and other nifty trinkets to a wide range of characters, whilst also befriending each community and forming lifelong bonds. As the traveling salesperson, you will need to keep stock of your rarities, and branch out to secure new clients and resources—two tasks that will have you venturing far and wide to an enormous collection of towns and idyllic settlements.

From the sounds of the blurb (and also taking its screenshots into account), Cozy Caravan will adopt an open-world setting for players to scoot around in. But as for how big the map in question will be, however, is still anybody’s guess. Moreover, it’s also unclear as to how little or how much players will need to do in each portion of the world before being able to progress. Either way, it appears that there’ll be more than enough to see and do, so that’s something.

Story

Cozy Caravan will center its world around one thing: a traveling salesperson and their companion, Bubba, as they embark on a worldwide adventure across luscious grasslands and lakeside retreats in their mobile market. The game, which will take place across a slew of vibrant locales, will feature a network of bustling communities, colorful personalities, and unlikely activities, all of which will be available to explore and interact with.

According to the blurb, the journey you’ll take will lead you on all sorts of adventures, and will often have you completing odd jobs around towns, as well as assisting locals in their search for a capable pair of hands. The goal, in short, will be to befriend the folks of each quarter of the region, and supply your customers with an infinite wealth of natural resources, trinkets, and other hearty goods.

Gameplay

Going by the details that have been posted to date, the bulk of the gameplay will involve having to gather resources for your caravan, as well as participate in a wide array of extracurricular activities, such as fishing, skimming rocks, and harvesting ingredients. Aside from that, there’ll be plenty of dialogue to sift through, and not to mention an entire roster of characters to unearth and befriend, too.

“Navigate through picturesque landscapes in your trusty caravan alongside your best buddy Bubba, setting up a mobile market in each new town,” the game’s description reads. “Craft a variety of items through delightful mini-games, then set up your market and trade with the local townsfolk. Along the way, encounter a rich tapestry of characters with their own stories and quests, deepening the sense of connection and community on this journey.”

A farming simulation game at heart, players can full well expect to see their fair share of foraging, crafting, and other agricultural duties. So, if you’re all for the idea of taking a virtual stall on the road, then you’ll no doubt find a lot to love in 5 Lives Studios’ upcoming entrée.

Development

5 Lives Studios, a firm based in Brisbane, Australia, has been chalking up games since 2013, with its most recent being Windbound, an aquatic survival sandbox IP. Its third game, which we now know to be Cozy Caravan, will aim to launch on PC at some point in 2024.

It is worth noting that, while the game is currently set to release in 2024, players will only be able to onboard the Early Access version. According to the devs, this initial release will feature the first region of the world, as well as its corresponding characters, quests, and activities. In the future, the game will go on to receive a second region, as well as a slew of new in-game additions and other post-launch updates. You can add that Early Access version to your wishlist on Steam here.
