If there’s one thing we’ve been able to come to terms with, it’s this: Dino Crisis isn’t going to happen — ever. Not that it matters so much anymore, though, thanks to Saber Interactive finally stepping in to right a few wrongs and bring ol’ Jurassic Park its own survival-horror game. That’s right, Jurassic Park: Survival is definitely happening, and if what the devs have been saying about it turn out to be true, then fans of the franchise can expect quite the adventure when the game does finally arrive on its chosen platforms.

To cut to the chase, if you are looking for an alternate way to scratch that one itch, in particular, then be sure to read on for a few quick alternatives. Here are the five best games like Jurassic Park: Survival.

5. Jurassic Park: Evolution

Jurassic World Evolution 2 | Launch Trailer

Perhaps it isn’t the thrill of the chase that drew your attention to Jurassic Park: Survival, but the Jurassic Park brand itself. If that is the case, then you’ll be pleased to know that there are, unsurprisingly, several alternatives that just so happen to tick all the same boxes. For example, there’s Jurassic Park: Evolution, a city-building and management simulation game in which players are able to build their own dinosaur-themed amusement park and resort. And not only that, but also tweak the rules to incubate new species of dinosaurs, as well as create breathtaking enclosures that stretch for countless miles, too.

Like a lot of sandbox games, Jurassic Park: Evolution comes with its fair share of issues, such as the vast majority of species having the ability to break free and slaughter every human guest in their path. There’s that, and then there’s also the case of dealing with staff, environmental issues, and global excursions, too. So, if it’s a city-building iteration of the Jurassic Park franchise that you’re after, then be sure to give either of the two Evolution sagas a shot.

4. Exoprimal

Exoprimal – Reveal Trailer

Dino Crisis isn’t about to receive a well-overdue remake anytime soon, and we’ve pretty much come to terms with that. With that said, Capcom has recently released the next best thing—a third-person sci-fi shooter named Exoprimalwhich happens to do just enough to scratch that itch. It isn’t quite up to the same pedigree as its inspiration, but where it lacks in nostalgia fodder, it most definitely makes up for in dinosaur-themed action and flashy sci-fi elements.

Exoprimal centers its world around a mixture of things — dinosaurs, mech systems, and exoskeleton-sporting warriors, being the three most important of the bunch. As one of said mech warriors, you will need to plunge into a hostile environment that’s been taken over by not only endless hordes of dinosaurs, but an AI-controlled Leviathan—a towering foe that just so happens to control a huge portion of the world and wreak havoc on its people.

3. Alien: Isolation

Alien: Isolation Gameplay Trailer - Transmission

There’s a reason why so many fans of Jurassic Park: Survival have aligned it with Alien: Isolation: its gameplay is, more or less, one and the same. And while the former does favor the common dinosaur over a flesh-eating alien, the fact is, both games share a similar playing field, which mostly involves having players tiptoeing between locations, and being able to solve environmental puzzles whilst also avoiding the toothy grin of an unhinged beast.

Alien: Isolation slots you into the boots of Amanda Ripley, daughter of 1979’s Ellen Ripley, as she boards the seemingly vacant corridors of Sevastopol in search of its missing crew. Surprise surprise, the vessel has been ransacked, and the only lives left in its wake are the aliens that patrol the darkest corners and ventilation systems. It’s your job, as the acclaimed engineer, to enter the quarters of the station, and do all in your power to fix a few components and, with a little luck, locate an escape before the aliens chow down on your bones for their latest meal.

2. Far Cry Primal

Far Cry Primal – Official Reveal Trailer [EUROPE]

If it’s the prehistoric world that entices you, and not, for example, the common tyrannosaurus, then you’ll want to consider pouring a few hours into Far Cry Primal. As one of the series’ best-selling entries, fans can expect to soak up all the same action-packed material of any modern Far Cry, but with a few added features, such as a hardcore survival mode, and an enormous prehistoric open world to explore, hunt, and of course, quest in.

As the title suggests, Far Cry Primal transports you to 10,000 BC—an era during which humans struggled to survive the hostile conditions and stay afloat in a world that was monopolized by mammoths, tigers, and other deadly animals. In this world, you will not only need to form a tribe, but also learn how to survive the day-to-day with little more than a spear and the clothes on your back. It’s challenging, to say the least, but it’s also in receipt of one of the best story-driven campaigns of all time, too.

1. Ark: Survival Ascended

ARK: Survival Ascended Launch Trailer

If you’d much rather bypass the thrills and chills of a cat-and-mouse chase with a dinosaur, then you’ll want to consider something a little more easygoing, such as Ark: Survival Ascended. Sure enough, there are numerous dinosaurs to cross tails with, but there are also copious amounts of areas to explore, materials to forage, and buildings to craft, too. So, if it’s a survival-crafting sandbox that you’re after, then be sure to give the latest Unreal Engine 5 revamp some TLC.

In short, Ark: Survival Ascended is a first-person survival game in which players must explore one several perilous worlds, all of which come loaded with dinosaurs, mythical beings, and other dangerous foes. To survive, players must not only build a home, but craft weapons, supplies, and tools, too. Think The Forest, but with a few hungry dinosaurs, and you’ll have a rough idea of what it’s all about.
