Dreamlight Valley The Remembering Update Art

It’s all well and good being able to shake a few hands and roll out the candy-coated carpet for anyone who’s willing to traipse it, but at the end of the day, if they’re not contributing to the growth of the economy, then they’re hardly worth inviting into your inner circle. As it turns out, Disney Dreamlight Valley isn’t all that different. More to the point, it certainly has the space to accommodate dozens of characters, but when all’s said and done, only a few of them will have the power to breathe new genes into your community to help it thrive. Question is, who are they, and why should you make befriending them a priority?

If you are just starting out in Gameloft’s newest IPand aren’t entirely sure which Realms to excavate first, then be sure to read on for a few pointers. Here are the best characters in Disney Dreamlight Valley.

5. Maui

Sure, he’s a little ego-obsessed, but the truth is, you need Maui in order to progress through an enormous chunk of the obstacles in Dreamlight Valley. Why? Well, as luck would have it, the demigod is in possession with all the right tools needed to upgrade your Royal Pickaxe—an extremely useful item that can mine ores, jewels, and other valuable resources. It can also shatter certain shells and other sturdy structures left out on Dazzle Beach and other biomes around the village, too. So, if you’re planning on getting chummy with any particular character, then you’d better make it Maui — if only until he’s exhausted his powers.

The good news is, you can get ahold of Maui and Moana relatively early on in the game, as both characters stem from one of the first Realms in the Castle. Once collected, you’ll want to build your friendship level with Maui as often as possible; giving him rare jewels is the quickest way to boost the XP and ascend the levels. Once you’ve grown somewhat acquainted with the hook-wielding demigod, he’ll offer you his services, which of course means better tools, and in turn, rarer, more valuable items to sell for larger amounts of cash.

4. Remy

As the old saying goes: the fastest way to a person’s heart is through their stomach. Well, not a whole lot is different in Dreamlight Valley, as a hearty meal is, without doubt, the fastest way to boost friendship levels, regardless of who it is you’re giving said meal to. And so, for the sake of bulking out your recipe book and knuckling in on all those five-star meals, you’ll want to recruit Remy into your fold as soon as the Realm becomes available.

Onboarding Remy into your active roster will grant you access to Chez Remy, the local restaurant and, of course, the classroom in which you’ll obtain, learn, and master new recipes. Again, you’ll need to get a little creative with your ingredients in order to discover unique recipes, after which you’ll be able to create palatable dishes for your nearest and dearest friends. So, if you’re looking to plow through the friendship levels, then you’d better start learning how to cook.

3. Elsa

Elsa arriving in Dreamlight Valley

The Queen of Ice won’t exactly arrive in your village for quite some time, as there are numerous holes to jump through in the Frozen Realm beforehand. That said, once Elsa makes her local debut, you’ll want to start chipping away at her friendship level, as a higher level will lead to crucial Quests—stepping stones which you will need to hop over in order to unlock new areas, and acquire better resources. As Elsa has the power to upgrade your Pickaxe to its maximum level, you will need to take it upon yourself to see to her every need and want. It’s definitely worth it, though.

Of course, you’ll need to divide your time between helping out Anna and Kristoff, too, as both of these characters also come with their own stories and rewards. However, when it comes to befriending the best character in the chosen Realms, you’ll want to prioritize Elsa, as she will be able to upgrade a lot of your kit, and eventually, open up new doorways to even better areas.

2. Scar

Dreamlight Valley Scar Update Art

If you’ve successfully managed to accrue enough Dreamlight, then you should be able to unlock the Sunlit Plateau biome—a tropical haven for several characters, including Scar. To get your hands on Scar, you will need to complete “The Curse”—a Quest that tasks you with reclaiming the Pillars of Friendship, Trust, Courage, and Power. Once done, you’ll be able to invite one of the best characters in all of Dreamlight Valley to your fold. And believe us when we say — you’re going to want Scar in your inner circle.

In spite of his somewhat evil posture and questionable intentions, Scar can actually prove rather useful for your endeavors, as he can upgrade your Royal Shovel to assist in tackling deeper, tougher dig spots. Of course, you will need to jump through a few hoops to get ahold of such an upgrade, but it’s certainly worth doing, as a sturdier Shovel in your kit means being able to loot even better treasures.

1. Merlin

Merlin is one of the first characters you’ll come to meet in Dreamlight Valley, which means you’ll have the opportunity to sift through the friendship levels before tackling any of the other Realms or biomes. And you’ll want to do just that, too, as Merlin can craft you a better Watering Can—a tool that’ll allow you to not only grow better crops, but also eradicate certain areas plagued by poisonous plants and fungi.

The only downside to befriending Merlin is that you can’t invite him to join you on your daily Quests. Instead, you’ll need to focus on bringing him gifts and completing his Quests in order to progress through the friendship levels. Again, it’s worth doing, as you’ll be needing a tougher Watering Can in order to unlock new regions, as well as harvest even greater resources.
