Best Bodycam Games in 2023

With today's technology, bodycam games are becoming so realistic that they resemble real-life footage. They have photorealistic graphics that put you right in the middle of the action. Whether it's a tactical shooter, horror FPS, or detective game, bodycam games help to create a surreal experience that requires taking immediate action in real-time. What will you do if you're put in some of history's most tense situations? Check out these best bodycam games in 2023 to find out.

5. Police Simulator: Patrol Duty

Police Simulator - Patrol Duty | Official Trailer

Have you ever pictured what a day in the life of a US police officer is like? Well, Police Simulator: Patrol Duty is the perfect way to place yourself in the middle of the action. That's because it’s the most authentic police simulator that mimics day-to-day patrol duty as closely as possible.

Players take on the role of a US police officer in an expansive, lively, and open-world fictional US city. You’ll receive reports that lead to investigating crime scenes. Depending on where an investigation leads, players may need to interrogate witnesses or set out to look for evidence.

All along, you’re in the driver’s seat of a police vehicle, realistically designed to operate as it would in real life. Police Simulator: Patrol Duty aims to recreate a police officer’s duties and responsibilities. Investigations start small, like parking violations. Thereafter, they grow into more complex scenarios that induce a lot of pressure to fight crime. The more you progress, the more the neighborhoods, districts, and duties grow. Can you keep your city safe?

4. Unrecord

Unrecord - Official Early Gameplay Trailer

Unrecord is an FPS shooter that uses Unreal Engine 5 to create hyper-realistic graphics and a unique bodycam perspective. Upon launch, gamers sang high praises about the optical illusion Unrecord managed to create. And for that reason, I think it’s well worth a try.

As detectives, players will immerse themselves in solving several complex cases. Both tactical and detective skills will come in handy. There are dialogues to help guide you through a compelling narrative. At certain points, players will be in the crosshairs of tough moral dilemmas.

Further, Unrecord will instigate plenty of plot twists you likely won’t see coming. It’ll challenge how fast you think on your feet and allow for a fun, unique shooting system that is surreal at its core. As far as solving crimes from the perspective of a police officer’s body camera goes, Unrecord is just about the closest indie game to perfectly nailing the movement, look, and feel of body cam footage to the core.

As of now, an actual release date is yet to be confirmed. However, positive reviews are already streaming in just from the first looks of the Unrecord trailer. So, it’s definitely one to keep an eye out for in the coming months.

This one, in particular, is one to watch out for when it drops.

3. Emergency Response: Liberty County

Emergency Response: Liberty County - Game Trailer

Emergency Response: Liberty County has quickly garnered worldwide praise on Roblox. Now that the police body cam feature is out, it’s more likely to hit the roof. Experience the adrenaline rush of an emergency services simulation game. It can be working in law enforcement or in fire and rescue. Each job allows you to team up with other players and roleplay simulations of real life.

With the police body cam feature, police officers and the sheriff can access live footage of any officer. You’ll need to head on over to the dispatcher rooms at the station to view the cameras. Additionally, you can communicate with officers on the scene on the radio while watching the cameras.

Although Emergency Response: Liberty County takes a more backseat role (rather than placing you on the scene of various crimes), it’s a good way to experience a different side of police crime investigations without ever leaving the station.

2. SWAT 4

SWAT teams are typically elite units of police departments trained to deal with specific, high-stakes, and often dangerous or violent, situations. If you’ve ever wondered what it feels like to be part of a SWAT team, then check out SWAT 4. This is a tactical FPS shooter that takes a different approach to emergency response. Instead of going in guns blazing, SWAT 4 tasks players with taking a step back to find the best way of restoring order using the least violent or non-lethal means.

Further, you’ll find lots of high-stakes missions that involve hostages, civilians, suspects, and even other police officers. Some scenarios quickly become hostile, with the best part being that you never know what to expect. What's more? They feel as authentic and realistic as they come, including the aggressiveness of the people within them.

Thanks to a high level of unpredictability, SWAT 4 feels like you’re in the field, thinking on your feet, and making decisions that have the potential to cause dire consequences if they’re wrong.

1. L.A. Noire

L.A. Noire 4K Trailer

Alternatively, consider playing L.A. Noire, which is a more photorealistic game than most. Set in 1940s Los Angeles, L.A. Noire takes a different approach to solving crimes, more like a Sherlock Holmes role. Players take on the role of an LAPD detective who’s tasked with investigating crime scenes, interrogating suspects, and solving cases with minimal use of force (and guns).

Occasionally, though, players will find themselves in fast-paced action sequences that involve wild chases, combat, and gunfights. The overall theme is rather dark and littered with violent crime. It’s a crime thriller about a city drowning in its own success. Everyone has something to hide, and it’s up to you to find the cracks in witness statements, search for clues and evidence, and bring a stop to the violence.

With the help of revolutionary facial animation technology, you should be able to read a person’s facial expressions and deduce when they’re hiding something. Then, interact with the environment around you to put the pieces of the dark 1940s LA case puzzles together. And when you have time to spare, head over to the side quests that offer more optional street crimes and collectibles like novels, vehicles, records, and more.
