All Tools in Assassin’s Creed: Mirage, Ranked
Since Basim only has a sword, dagger, and hidden blade to attack and defend himself, the tools in Assassin’s Creed: Mirage will come in handy at one point or another. Not only in combat, tools help you break into previously inaccessible rooms, too. They help distract and lure guards away from their posts, so you can easily sneak past them. They may even help chip away at the enemy’s armor so you can assassinate them easily.
While tools have been a staple in Assassin’s Creed, Ubisoft has taken a step further to include both classic and new tools you’ll need the most during your time in Baghdad. Additionally, the studio has made it so you can unlock and upgrade each tool in order, making the choice to pick the most useful one much more dire. To help you decide, we’ve rounded up all the tools in Assassin’s Creed: Mirage and ranked them from worst to best.
6. Torch
Lucky for you, the Torch is easy to get early in your playthrough. So, you can start to use it from the get-go. With the description “a simple source of light and fire,” the torch provides you with an unlimited source of light to find your way in dark areas of Baghdad and clear cobwebs, too. You can also use it to set flammable items on fire, which, despite unleashing a low damage output, can be perfect for distracting and luring guards away from their posts. Particularly, you can use it to light up flammable smoke bombs, another tool we’ll see below.
Unfortunately, you’ll quickly trade the torch for another more valuable tool as you progress. That’s because it’s the only tool that doesn’t allow you to upgrade. Simply lighting up your way and causing distractions will easily become a second priority, especially in the later stages of the game.
How to Unlock Torch
The torch is unlocked by default just as soon as you unlock the tool wheel in the prologue during your training to become one of the Hidden Ones in Alamut Castle.
5. Trap
Next up, we have the trap, a non-lethal explosive that can knock down groups of enemies for a long time. Although in the beginning its effect is non-lethal, you can upgrade its power to become deadly, making it a valuable go-to tool for stealth gameplay. Thanks to its ability to incapacitate groups of enemies, you can use it for crowd control, especially during an ambush. But it also means that you’ll need to strategize the best time to set the trap to make the most of it.
You may want to study guards’ patrol patterns and unleash the trap where they converge. When it explodes, it’ll also make noise, giving you the perfect distraction to sneak past any remaining guards. Alternatively, you can be a bit more sly and set the trap on your escape route, such that any enemies daring to follow you are caught off guard. With the upgrades, you can increase the trap’s lethality. This will cause a fire explosion that’s deadlier. Upgrades also crank up your ammo capacity as well as increase the knock-out duration.
How to Unlock Trap
You’ll need to unlock a new slot in your tool wheel through the Trickster skill tree. Then, fill the slot with a trap from Ibn Musa from the Assassin Bureau.
4. Blowdart
Alternatively, consider the Blowdart, which, unlike the trap, is a silent projectile that enemies won’t see coming. You can use the blowdart to incapacitate enemies from a mile away. It’s the perfect tool to pick off enemies from a mile away, one by one. That’s because it doesn’t cause as big a fuss as throwing knives that easily alert enemies to your presence.
Furthermore, you’re free to throw multiple darts toward a group of guards. It’ll mark each one and put them to sleep. This allows you to move in for the silent assassination afterward. Or, help thin the herd for an easier takedown of the remaining ones. When you consider the upgrades, it sweetens the deal a tad bit more. You can make the blowdarts induce permanent sleep, perfect for clearing non-lethal contracts. You can also make the darts poisonous or induce a fit of rage on impact.
How to Unlock Blowdart
Similar to Trap, unlock a new slot in the tool wheel through the Trickster skill tree. Then, get blowdarts from Ibn Musa from the Assassin Bureau.
3. Smoke Bomb
Smoke bombs can potentially become your go-to tool if you prefer a more up-close-and-personal approach. Even if you like to keep a safe distance, it’s always a valuable tool to have on your tool wheel in case of an ambush. The smoke bomb allows you to unleash a thick cloud of smoke that makes it harder for enemies to see – military style. This way, you can move in the shadows and take out as many guards as you can.
Since Assassin’s Creed: Mirage favors stealth above all else, throwing a smoke bomb when spotted is the best way to come out unscathed. You can always upgrade its power to allow you to heal while inside its smoke cloud. Or, make the bombs silent on impact. Plus, it unleashes a red smoke unique to Mirage and makes the play look pretty cool.
How to Unlock Smoke Bomb
First, unlock a new tool slot through the Trickster’s skill tree. Then, interact with Ibn Musa at any Hidden One’s Assassin’s Bureau to get smoke bombs.
2. Noisemaker
As its name goes, Noisemaker is the perfect distraction tool, especially when you want to cause such a big fuss that a group of guards comes following your scent. However, you’ll want to use the noisemaker carefully. Perhaps find a kill spot to lure multiple guards, too, then unleash the smoke bomb. Or leading guards away from your escape route.
Either way, noisemakers come in numbers and give you the perfect strategic play when playing a game that thrives on stealth. With the upgrades, you can extend the noisemaker’s duration on impact, which comes in pretty handy to give you enough time to escape. Alternatively, upgrades can induce fear, causing guards to run away.
How to Unlock Noisemaker
After you unlock a new tool slot in the Trickster skill tree, talk to Ibn Musa at any Assassin Bureau to get noisemakers.
1. Throwing Knife
Still, a classic in Mirage, throwing knives comes in handy when taking out guards from a distance. It can take out two guards at the same time. Or cause an explosion when thrown into oil jars. You can even use them to dispatch crates hanging over a group of guards.
Moreover, you can upgrade throwing knives so that you’re free to recover used ones. Alternatively, you can make them poisonous or even increase their armor breakage rate by chipping away at heavily armored enemies. My favorite: upgrades can allow you to disintegrate dead bodies, leaving no trace of your presence behind.
How to Unlock Throwing Knife
Similar to Torch, throwing knives unlock by default as soon as you gain access to the tool wheel during your training in Alamut Castle to become a fully-fledged member of the Hidden Ones.
