Xbox Boss Sheds Light on Undead Labs’ State of Decay 3

Ever since Undead Labs announced the third installment to the State of Decay series in July of 2020, both news and rumors surrounding it have fizzled out to the point of being non-existent. And let's be honest, the fact Xbox has kept relatively quiet over the last two years has only made things that much worse. The question is: is it still in the works?

Originally slated for a rough 2022 release, Undead Labs remained confident with their progression some ways back. Fast-forward a set amount of time, and talks of it launching in 2023 soon began to circulate the room. Now, we're not entirely sure what's happening with it.

That said, an update has been made by none other than Xbox boss Phil Spencer himself. Although not a direct update with a sufficient amount of beef—it does come with a few kind words. And to be fair, any news is good news, especially when something has been out of the loop for two years without so much as a breadcrumb to follow.

STATE OF DECAY 3 Trailer (2020)

Phil Spencer pitched in on the game

“This one's probably not that big of a surprise for people who have watched me play, but I was a big State of Decay 2 player. Looking at State of Decay 3, I'm incredibly excited about some of the advancements they're going to make,” Spencer said via Xbox Era and Pure Xbox.

“They've had this pattern – they've talked about it publicly from State of Decay 1 to 2 to 3 and what they want to do, and we haven't shown a lot [of State of Decay 3]. It's s a game I really enjoy playing, I'm a big co-op player, I like building, I like resourcing… and I'm really excited about where that team's going.”

You can, of course, stay in the loop by following the official social handle here. But as far as an official launch goes—we wouldn't suggest holding your breath for a 2022 release. Though, don't take our word on that. Undead Labs possess the keys, meaning we're left to hang out in the cold until they finally decide to unlock the door.

So, what's your take? Do you think State of Decay 3 will launch this year? Let us know over on our socials here or down in the comments below.
