Notably, the game promises a wild ride that will keep you on the edge of your seat. As we anticipate its official release, let us explore everything about Worshippers of Cthulhu.

What is Worshippers of Cthulhu?

deity causing chaos

Worshippers of Cthulhu is an upcoming strategy city-builder video game that immerses players in a Lovecraftian-themed world of darkness. Set in an eldritch world, players must navigate the twisted mysteries and terrifying horrors of the Cthulhu Mythos.

In the game, players confront ancient secrets, cosmic entities, and the ever-looming threat of madness. With strategic city-building elements and a rich Lovecraftian narrative, they embark on a journey to awaken ancient powers and shape the fate of their cult.

On the other hand, you'll perform spooky rituals to connect with cosmic beings like the Great One and Dagon from Lovecraft's stories. These rituals give you special knowledge and magical powers to make your city stronger. With these blessings, you can grow your city even more and become a powerful force in the game's mysterious world.

Story

a city in construction

In Worshippers of Cthulhu, you're the leader of a spooky cult that aims to wake up Cthulhu, a big, scary ancient creature. The amazing thing is that you call the shots, deciding what your followers do and how your cult grows. So, you've got to gather things like sacrifices and other items to perform dark rituals. But watch out; too much dark stuff can mess with your followers' heads.

Exploring creepy places is a big part of the game. You'll find old ruins, uncover secrets, and deal with other cults who want to be the top dogs. However, be careful. The world is full of scary stuff that can mess with your head, so you've got to be smart about what you do.

Additionally, it is a game that always puts on the edge, trying to balance power and sanity. With each ritual performed and each secret uncovered, the line between reality and madness gets thinner. But if you're clever and careful enough, you might just succeed in waking up the Cthulhu. And if you do so, you will become the ultimate cult leader among the Worshippers of Cthulhu.

Gameplay

characters development

Worshippers of Cthulhu revolves around the player's role as a cult leader seeking to awaken the ancient entity known as Cthulhu. In the game, players start by managing their cult's affairs. Also, you recruit new followers and assign them tasks.

Resources are essential for the cult's survival and growth. Therefore, players must gather materials such as sacrifices, arcane artifacts, and forbidden knowledge. This helps them to fuel their rituals and strengthen their cult's power.

Performing rituals is a central aspect of gameplay. Players conduct dark ceremonies to commune with cosmic entities, gain eldritch powers, and unlock new abilities. However, each ritual carries risks, including potential backlash from the entities or the loss of sanity for the cultists.

As a leader, you must establish and expand your cult's headquarters, manage infrastructure, and defend against threats. Cult cities serve as hubs for recruiting followers, conducting rituals, and conducting research. It is a whole organization structured to give gamers an unforgettable cultish experience.

On the other hand, the game features branching narratives and moral dilemmas where players must make decisions that shape the fate of their cult. Conversely, choices have consequences, affecting the storyline, the cult's reputation, and the player's relationship with other factions.

Crazy Goat Games has been crafting Worshippers of Cthulhu into a Lovecraftian masterpiece. With the game now in Early Access, the developers are eager to hear from players and refine the experience based on their feedback. They anticipate spending about a year on Early Access. Consequently, they plan to deepen the game's Cthulhu and city-building mechanics with input from the community.

Currently, players can check out two polished chapters, each offering hours of gameplay. While the game may see a price increase as it evolves, the developers are dedicated to engaging with the community through platforms like Discord and Steam reviews. Still, they welcome comments and suggestions to shape the game's ongoing development journey.
