Was Beyond Good & Evil 2 Doomed From The Beginning?

Ubisoft's Beyond Good & Evil 2 has officially thrown itself into the hourglass. The question is: how many grains does it have in its possession before the sands finally collapse for good?

First announced back in 2008 during a Ubidays showcase (yes, 2008), the long-awaited sequel was set to overthrow the acclaimed pilot and launch the franchise into everlasting stardom. However, after nearly a decade of silence, the game finally returned for E3 2017. And after that, well — let's just say we haven't seen much more than a teaser trailer since.

Come 2020, Ubisoft director Michel Ancel, who also directed the first game, decided to take flight and depart the board. Shortly after that, developers that had already committed themselves to the game were lost in motion, without a “creative direction” to keep the project afloat. As it stands today, well — remember that hourglass I was talking about?

So, how long before the plug gets pulled?

It's been almost fourteen years since Beyond Good & Evil 2 was teased. Going by that I think it's fair to say that hope has definitely taken a sharp turn down south. After all, it has unfortunately become one of the longest development phases in video game history — and fans aren't too pleased about that fact, either.

Of course, with all of this said — Beyond Good & Evil 2 is still very much in development, despite its creators running amok and without guidance. Though sadly, the plug is bound to be pulled over the coming months for that exact reason. Because let's face it — fourteen years is probably a sign that things just aren't meant to be after all.

We'll continue to support Ubisoft during these trying times, though the outcome does seem almost inevitable at this rate. But then, given the time it's taken to reach the crossroads — I guess you could say it was almost expected.
