Ubisoft Is Giving Away Anno 1404 For a Limited Time

Ready to erect an Italian metropolis fit for an empire? Ubisoft is giving out Anno 1404 — History Edition for free for the next week.

As per the annual routine, Ubisoft has made the generous offer to serve up a free game in the run-up to Christmas. The only downside to the offer, sadly, is that it's only available for PC users via a code, meaning console players will unfortunately be missing out on the city-building action this month. Oh, and it must be claimed by December 14, before the price hikes back up to its original tag.

“Relive the captivating gameplay of a true city-building classic with Dawn of Discovery and its Venice expansion in Anno 1404 History Edition,” the description reads. “See the game like never before, updated and optimized to work smoothly on current computers with resolutions of up to 4K, and enjoy all improvements while continuing your existing game with full save compatibility.”

What's included in the History Edition?

Of course, it is worth taking into account that the History Edition is basically a rehash of the 2009 game, only with the Venice expansion bundled on top. But considering it's free for a limited time, we can't really fault it in any way. And to be fair, you're saving around $15. So, we're in no place to nitpick.

Anno 1404 received favourable reviews upon release, with many claiming the game was the best in the series. But of course, you'll have to decide for yourself. The offer is available through to next Tuesday (December 14). And remember, it's only open for PC users, so anyone with an Xbox, PlayStation or Switch will have to pay full price. Sigh.
