Scalper Firm Says Gamers Aren’t “Suffering” Without a PS5

Let's face it. Trying to secure a PlayStation 5 in this day and age is like trying to catch the snitch in a Quidditch game during cyclone season. However, the only faces fit enough to land the roles of Dorothy and Toto in this hybrid of cult-classic movie references, wouldn't you believe, are scalper bots and their trusty human counterparts. And guess what? Only two can punch their tickets to Oz. That being the PlayStation 5 stock room, or something along those lines.

A solid sixteen months have passed since Sony unleashed the PlayStation 5—and stock is still at an all-time low. Even with the countless promises sent out to the world, Sony has still not been able to meet demand, and unfortunately it has led to quite the commotion over on the gaming frontline.

That being said, a few smiles still cloak the market. Scalpers, for what it's worth, are raking in the lion's share when it comes to selling consoles at nearly triple the launch price. And some of these sales, unfortunately, are breaking the quadruple digits. Hence the glowing smiles from a certain collective.

And then there are the others

One particular scalper firm, known as Aftermarket Arbitrage, a UK-based company, recently spoke with BBC News about the situation. Specifically, the CEO Jack Bayliss took it upon himself to say that gamers aren't “suffering” without a PS5. And while his words ring true, it has frustrated a lot of the community.

“I wouldn't class not having a PS5 as suffering. There are people out there that want to do more than their nine-to-five. They want a side hustle. If you see friction between supply and demand, you're going to see someone taking advantage of it,” Bayliss told BBC.

As far as seeing a spike in stock over the next year goes, it's really anybody's guess. One thing's for sure: gamers still aren't best pleased with how things have mapped out since 2020. Here's hoping things will change sooner rather than later.

So, what's your take? Have you been able to get your hands on a PS5 yet? Let us know over on our socials here or down in the comments below.
