Not to be confused with MotoGP, MXGP: The Official Game brings back the lost-but-not-forgotten MXGP series. When Milestone stopped the development of the series in 2021, it seemed futile for the series to return anytime soon. But, good news, folks, it’s nearly here, with a new development and publishing team charging the path forward. So, what new changes can you expect? Is there a trailer and release date out already? Scroll through to the end of this article to find out everything we know so far about the upcoming MXGP: The Official Game.

What is MXGP: The Official Game?

MXGP: The Official Game — Everything We Know

MXGP: The Official Game is an upcoming off-road motorcycle racing game. It’ll be the entry for 2024, picking up where MXGP 2021 left off. MXGP is the official FIM Motocross World Championship video game series. However, its original developer, Milestone, stopped development in 2021. Now, the series finally returns under new management. Dirt bike racing fans are in for a special treat this year. So, get ready to hit the mud and brave the pouring rain, all in a bid to take the FIM Motocross World Championship crown home.

Story

MXGP: The Official Game — Everything We Know

It’s unclear what storyline MXGP: The Official Game plans to use. MXGP 2021 didn’t have a story, instead featuring a career mode where you choose a team and take them through a series of intense races to become the crown champion. Perhaps MXGP: The Official Game will take the same route. Furthermore, KT Racing and Nacon haven’t included 2024 in the upcoming game’s naming convention, which may hint at a reboot of the series.

What we know for sure is that it’ll indeed feature riders and courses from the 2024 FIM Motocross World Championship. Infront Moto Racing CEO David Luongo says, “The video game will give the possibility to everybody to engage on the official tracks of the FIM Motocross World Championship with the official riders and compete to become a World Champion. We cannot wait to see the first input and result of the development of the new game, and I am sure that the realism will be breathtaking.”

Development

Developer KT Racing and publisher Nacon are currently working on MXGP: The Official Game. Nacon has only just announced the game’s development at the World of Sports presentation in Nacon Connect 2024. According to Nacon, “Players will be able to explore behind the scenes of the world’s most iconic motocross championship, with access to all the discipline’s official content—with the game providing a calendar, riders, teams, bikes, and sponsors.”

Developer Milestone previously held the rights to develop FIM Motocross World Championship games from 2014 to 2021. However, Nacon will take over the license in partnership with Infront Moto Racing from 2024 to 2028. In collaboration with KT, they’re picking up the official Motocross series, with MXGP: The Official Game marking the 2024 entry for the world’s most iconic dirt bike championship.

KT Racing had experience developing sports games, including Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown and the WRC series, before Codemasters took over. Alain Falc, CEO of Nacon, expresses confidence in KT Racing, saying, “(KT Racing) will undoubtedly be able to transcribe into a video game all the complexity of (motocross’) spectacular discipline, which combines reflexes, speed, and anticipation.”

Nacon, on the other hand, has their work cut out for them, with several other sports games currently underway, including Tour de France 2024, Tiebreak: The Official Game of the ATP and WTA, Rugby 24, Pro Cycling Manager 2024, and Session: Skate Sim. Hopefully, they’ve taken on what they can handle, and MXGP is as fun as we hope it to be.

Nacon has released an official announcement trailer, which you can watch from 2:40 till the end of the video. It’s barely a sneak peek into the expected action-packed gameplay to get your juices flowing. We see England and Matterley Basin, which aren’t on the 2024 calendar. So, perhaps it means you can anticipate locations and tracks from outside the 2024 Motocross campaign. Hopefully, more in-depth gameplay and story trailers will follow in the months preceding launch day.
