Games on Steam is a weekly installment that tackles the latest and greatest Indie games from this popular platform. Today, we will depopulate hell, escape from a creepy underground facility, uncover the mysteries of ancient Egypt, date our weapons, and more.

Dread Templar

Let's kick things off with a hectic retro FPS. In it, we take the role of a Dread Templar who goes to hell to exact his revenge. The result of this premise is a badass game in which you'll slice through huge waves of demonic entities in a Doom-like fashion. Aside from the vast arsenal of weapons, you will also acquire Dread Powers and skills that let you customize your playstyle. In short, if you are a fan of old-school shooters like Quake, you will feel right at home with Dread Templar.

Naraka: Bladepoint

Next, we have an interesting action Battle Royale set in the ancient east. Naraka puts a lot of emphasis on the movement and gives you a grappling hook with which you can move swiftly and go to seemingly unreachable places. The game has plenty of distinct classes, such as swordsmen, monks, warriors, and assassins. With each, you will have to incorporate different strategies to come out victorious. If things go sideways, you can always transform yourself into a Vajra Warrior and use his powers to crush your opponents. Save for the lack of servers in some parts of the world, Naraka is an entertaining and fresh take on the whole genre, with enough depth to keep you occupied for some time.

UpGun

UpGun is a casual multiplayer shooter. Here, each game is comprised of numerous rounds, and after each, you'll be able to pick a new upgrade. There are over 50 available, ranging from exploding bullets to bonus HP and grenade upgrades. Basically, there's enough material to develop a good strategy by creating powerful combos or canceling out opponents' synergies. Visually, UpGun sports a comic book look that suits it very well. Overall, it is a pretty entertaining game with enough potential to keep an eye on it.

Savior of the Abyss

This one will appeal to the fans of creepy horror adventures. Savior of the Abyss tasks you with guiding Stella from the underground facility. On your way, you will have to solve riddles and carefully explore your surroundings if you wish to stay alive. Although it's a bit short, Savior of the Abyss has an ominous atmosphere and is interesting enough to keep you entertained for a few hours.

Boyfriend Dungeon

We know you've never dated your weapons, but why should you limit yourself like this? After all, true love knows no boundaries, and this is what Boyfriend Dungeon will try to teach you. This is a weird mix of action roguelike and dating sim that is unlike anything I've played before. In it, you can be in a relationship with up to seven weapons, such as laser sabers, daggers, and swords. As you can imagine, the story is a bit wacky, but also very well developed and dare I say … emotional? Additionally, Boyfriend Dungeon has addictive and complex gameplay, which makes it well-rounded and one of the more surprising new games on Steam.

Garden Story

Garden Story is a charming action RPG in which you will try to restore a broken community. To do this, you will have to gather materials, upgrade structures, improve your social ties and protect your important friends. The game has a lush, vibrant world with a lot of friendly characters and challenging puzzles to solve. In short, Garden Story seems like a simplified version of classic Legend of Zelda games, which is certainly a huge plus.

Car Mechanic Simulator 2021

Roll up your virtual sleeves guys, it's time to fix some automobiles. Car Mechanic Simulator puts a lot of attention to small details, letting you work on 4000+ parts spread on 70+ car models. As expected, you will start as a small auto shop owner and slowly develop your services to create a mechanical empire. With each baby you repair or completely rebuild, you will gain some dough that you can invest in better equipment, a new shop, or second-hand cars that you can buy in an Auction house. Depending on your skill level, you can choose different difficulties, so the game isn't overwhelming even if you don't know much about the cars. When all is said and done, this is one of the best simulators of its kind on the market.

Dust to the End

Set in a post-apocalyptic world, Dust to the End is a turn-based RPG that will task you with surviving in an inhospitable wasteland. To do this, you will join a caravan of merchants, trade with trustworthy, kill mercenaries, grow your settlement and develop new technologies. Dust to the End is set in a vast world where monsters and enemies can move freely, so you never know what to expect next.

Hourglass: Prologue

Hourglass is an adventure in which you will manipulate time to solve challenging puzzles. You play as Aywa, a young explorer that's looking for her father that has disappeared on his latest expedition. The game is set in Egypt, which turns out to be much more advanced than we originally thought. Hourglass is visually stunning and its prologue serves as a nice introduction to the magic of ancient Egypt.

Atrio: The Dark Wild

Lastly, we have a weird survival game set in a post-apocalyptic cyberpunk world. Survival in Atrio is never easy, and you will have to create elaborate automation systems to give yourself enough time to turn the lights back on. You will also have to explore your surroundings and capture new creatures that will have their role in your assembly line. As you progress, the smart storyline will slowly unravel and give you a glimpse into why you have been sent here in the first place. In short, Atrio is a funny, complex, and wacky experience that plays out like a sinister Factorio.

With nearly 100 editions of Games on Steam, there's never a shortage of Indies to play. You can check out the previous one here.
