Image & Form,” the same Swedish developers of the adventure-RPG (role-playing game), “SteamWorld Quest” and the 2D shooter game, “SteamWorld Heist,” brings to you the new, adventure/puzzler, “The Gunk.” This time, “Image & Form” are not using the world of steampunk and robots.

“The Gunk” was announced during the Xbox Games Showcase.” So far, other than the expected release of September 2021, no official release date was revealed for “The Gunk.” What we know is that the game will be available on the following platforms: “Xbox One,” Xbox Series X,” and “Windows PC.” The developers did not mention if the “The Gunk” will be available on “PS5 (Playstation 5)” or “Nintendo Switch.”

The Gunk - Reveal Trailer

This game full of black goo will be arriving to “Xbox Smart Delivery.” If you are not familiar with “Xbox Smart Delivery,” it means if you buy it once on “Xbox One,” you will get access to it on “Xbox Series X.”

“The Gunk” somewhat makes me think about movies like “Slither” and “Cabin Fever,” but I remind myself that “The Gunk” is an adventurous, animated story. We already hate it when gunk gets stuck in the charging ports of our cell phones. How can we love gunk spreading anywhere else? This game is already aesthetically being compared to “Journey to The Savage Planet.”

Gameplay:

In this third-person action-adventure game, two friends are scavenging together, traveling from one space rock to another. They are searching for resources (like alien plants) they can harvest and sell. Eventually, the land appears to look lifeless from a distance. A slimy parasite or gunk covers vast areas of the vibrant wildlife.

Explore a dangerous planet plagued with gunk. With your friend, courageously take on intimidating enemies and discover exotic locales. Run, jump, and use your handy vacuum to your advantage. Suck up an enormous amount of black goo that corrupts the wildlife with a powerful vacuum. Make the world clean. Also, there just may be a combat element added.
