Each perfect move you make along the way expands the music. However, every time you make a mistake, the beat loses its rhythm, throwing you off. Completely slip up and you restart from the beginning.

The genius in Bit.Trip Runners rhythm-based gameplay is that each level is built around the soundtrack. Meaning, every jump, kick, and slide in the level is designed to perfectly match the beat of the soundtrack. So, in order to perfect each level, you really have to perfect your tempo with the soundtrack. The finished result is a wonderful blend of song and movement. All in all, the game teaches you a lot about tempo, and evidently why we consider it one of the best rhythm games like Invector.

Slip up a little bit, and let's just say the result is not music to your ears.

If Invector wants you to stay on beat, one game that will discipline you in that area is Geomtry Dash. This rhythmic-based action platformer has you playing as a square zipping through a side-scrolling level filled with obstacles. Dodging them is as simple as a click of a button, but it must be an accurate one. That's because, as the name implies, Geometry Dash's stages are designed so they can only be beaten in perfect sequence. In other words, you must be exactly in sync with the level in order to complete it.

What's more, each level is accompanied by upbeat techno, dance, and DnB music. The further you make it in the level, the more the music ramps up. However, rather than zipping around the galaxy in a spaceship, Hi-Fi Rush sees you following the story of wannabe rockstar Chai who's trying to use his rhythmic prowess to take down an evil robotics enhancement megacorp. The premise itself is quite unique and the game has received tons of overwhelmingly positive reviews as a result.

Outfitted with a custom soundtrack, Hi-Fi Rush will have rocking out while you try to save the world. Nonetheless, it's refreshing as we don't always get narrative-driven rhythm-based games. As a result, we strongly suggest Hi-Fi Rush as one of the greatest rhythm-based games like Invector.
