Overwatch 2 in Best MOBA Games on Xbox Series X|S

MOBAs, or multiplayer online battle arenas, can be tricky to play with controllers. However, the Xbox Series X/S makes every effort to make your experience as effortless as possible. This is evident from the ever-expanding array of MOBA games on the platform(s). Today, the Xbox Series/S offers an impressive range of MOBA titles. However, not all of them provide the same quality of competitiveness, seamless tower defense strategies, and head-to-head squad-based battling tactics. These best MOBA games on Xbox Series X/S in 2024 are a great place to start, though.

5. Paladins

Paladins - Be More Than a Hero - Official Trailer

Paladins cast you into the role of the champions of the realm, fighting for a worthy cause. You control a diverse set of characters, each with unique combat skills and abilities. You can team up with friends to spike the thrill of battle further. Using 5v5 hero shooter battles, you’ll compete for the crown, carving legend status on stone. The choices you make in battle go a long way to setting the course of victory. You do take a step back to plan your next move. Furthermore, since characters are well-balanced, you can experiment and customize your play across virtually all the champions to find your groove.

Paladins don’t just power you through the night. It marks your weekend calendar full with plenty of unlockables and character progression to keep you logging back in for more. It might even get addictive if you’re not careful, constantly injecting vibrant visuals and diverse gameplay into your routine. But if cartoony art styles aren’t your cup of tea, you can consider Chivalry 2 instead.

4. Chivalry 2

Chivalry 2 - Official Launch Trailer

The hack-and-slash Chivalry 2 action game has many of its players in a chokehold. It puts a spin on the epic medieval battle warfare you’ve seen on the big screen, bringing that over-the-top combat action to your living room. Something about Chivlary 2 sets it apart from the historical battle games out there. Perhaps it’s the 64 players logged in simultaneously, all competing to finish up the objective-based team modes first in line. The battles are as intense as you imagine, with both skills and wit playing a vital role in your victory.

You can easily jump into the action with little knowledge of the mechanics. That’s not to say you won’t come head-to-head with brutally challenging missions and a complex melee system to master. It’s not all serious, though. Chivalry 2 thrives in a low comedic tone and casual atmosphere that pushes you to let loose and just have fun.

3. Apex Legends

On the other hand, you can consider Apex Legends, which is no stranger to the battle royale field. Legends head to battle, competing in fierce competitive fighting sequences, trimming down the competition till one player is left standing. It’s your best bet to climb the ranks to fame and glory, showing off your best shooting skills. With the game’s exciting roster, you can switch between characters and keep the flow interesting. Similarly, the mechanics and movement speed gel seamlessly to create a smooth experience throughout.

Best of all, the thrill of combat never gets old. You always improve your skills run after run, drawing closer to the top squad with patience and practice. Whether randomly matched or best buds from way back, you’ll work together to thwart the competition. It doesn’t hurt that Apex Legends is darn gorgeous to look at and play through.

2. SMITE

SMITE - Cinematic Trailer

You could embody the might of the Greek gods in SMITE instead. This MOBA pits deities against each other. From Thor’s thunder and swashbuckling hammer to Medusa’s serpent head that turns enemies into stone, all the Greek mythology icons you can think of are represented here to the tune of 100+ deities. Each god has varying abilities and powers. They also play differently, encouraging you to experiment and find your favorite. SMITE’s maps aren’t a letdown either, with detailed and professional polish on each one. You also enjoy various modes that progressively put your skills to the test.

While the SMITE MOBA community is rather small, there’s no denying the gem hidden here. From its third-person perspective that’s more immersive to the blind-side ambushes that keep you on your toes, SMITE thrives in every way possible. It’s frantic. Its controls are precise enough to pay close attention to its combat. And the gods do a fantastic job of closely emulating what the actual deities from time past must have sounded and behaved like.

1. Overwatch 2

Besides Apex Legends, you can also consider Overwatch 2, which is also a hero shooter game. The series has garnered a solid reputation for its evolving roster and futuristic setting. It provides over 30 heroes to choose from, each varied in their personality, skills, and abilities. These factor into team composition as you duke it out with friends, pushing thoughtful and strategic planning ahead of battle. As a live service, you enjoy consistent updates spread across seasons. All along, you enjoy kinetic action, spiking adrenaline through the veins at each turn. Fun and fast-paced, Overwatch 2 remains a competitive shooter to watch out for. It picks up from the prequel, applying a finer polish to an already vibrant-looking game.

Furthermore, character models look great, and the replayability level skyrockets as more content streams in. Sure, Overwatch 2‘s team may have over-promised the new free-to-play change in direction. However, the sequel is still, at its core, the fantastic multiplayer hero shooter we loved. If anything, the sequel improves on character balancing and overall gameplay. It adds new modes, faces, and maps that are pretty sheer fun to play. All in all, Overwatch 2 runs down a faster yet more challenging experience that’s still Overwatch, for better or worse.
