BAFTA Games Awards 2021 Nominations Announced

Updated on

It's official: BAFTA Games will be going ahead on March 25th via their online stage. Until that day comes, however, we're left to ponder over the nominations that were announced this afternoon. And, we have to admit — we're getting some serious Game Awards 2020 vibes from this one. With The Last of Us: Part II standing strong for a second year running, it's clear that Naughty Dog will be prepping their trophy cabinet for a few more awards this month.

Based on 18 categories, The Last of Us: Part II has managed to snag 13 separate nominations. Ranging from animation to artistic achievement, the Naughty Dog best-seller is clearly still making its mark eight months since launch. But then, even with the highly praised title spreading its glory across all corners of the upcoming show, there are still a few big alternative games with just as much of a stake in the show.

On top of The Last of Us: Part II, the BAFTA Games ceremony will also be welcoming the likes of Ghost of Tsushima, which has also received 10 nominations. Sprinkled between the nooks and crannies of this is, of course, several well-deserving titles that span multiple categories. So, all in all, it's shaping up to be a packed-out presentation with a lot of worthy nominations to celebrate.

2020 wasn't the ideal year for the gaming world in general. And yet, even with the many hardships that both the developer and player faced, we still welcomed thousands of fantastic games into our ever-expanding libraries. While The Last of Us: Part II is evidently the frontrunner to the latest awards ceremony (again), there are still plenty of polished works that came to light through COVID-19. So, for that, we are eternally grateful.

You can see the full list of nominations through the official BAFTA board here. The BAFTA Games show will be live on March 25th.
