Activision has officially confirmed that Black Ops 6 is this year’s Call of Duty instalment. The confirmation kicks off a marketing campaign for the game ahead of the official reveal in June.

The confirmation follows the launch and reveal of a teaser website for the game earlier this week. The publisher also had adverts in Thursday’s edition of USA Today. Fans were quick to spot the in-universe headlines and advertisements, which included dramatic imagery and cryptic messages.

The promo also features an image of a vandalised Mount Rushmore with the headline “MOUNT RUSHMORE DE-FACED.” A unique in-universe headline reads, “Iconic presidents blindfolded in brazen act,” describing how an unidentified group scaled Mount Rushmore at night to hang banners proclaiming, “The Truth Lies.” The culprits are speculated to be either “anti-government extremists” or “anarchist pranksters.”

The newspaper's advertising campaign prominently features the game’s logo and title, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. In addition, the advertisement has a series of in-universe news stories and links to the teaser website, TheTruthLies.com. The website features a video referencing 2020’s Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. The video suggests a connection to the previous game's multiple endings, where players could choose to reveal or conceal the location of the antagonist, Perseus.

The same vandalized Mount Rushmore image seen in USA Today is also featured on the site.

The game's title reveals a significant shift in its branding. Activision has chosen a different numerical system for this year's game. The title will be Black Ops 6, moving away from the Roman numerals used in previous entries like Black Ops IIII.

Activision’s owner, Microsoft, will officially unveil Black Ops 6 during the Xbox Games Showcase on June 9. This event, the first to include presentations from Activision Blizzard, Bethesda, and Xbox Game Studios, promises to provide a comprehensive look at what players can expect from this year's Call of Duty.

Call of Duty Black Ops 6 Release Date

Activision has not revealed the release date of this year's Call of Duty. However, reports indicate that the game will launch in late October. Recent reports also claim that Microsoft will include the game in Game Pass at launch.
