Wargroove 2: Everything We Know

After numerous rumors, we now have confirmation that Wargroove will be followed by a sequel. This time, developers Chucklefish and Robotality are aiming to push the boundaries of their turn-based strategy. But what exactly does that entail? We're just as curious as you are, so here's everything we know so far about Wargoove 2.

What is Wargroove 2

Wargroove 2 is an up to four-player co-op turn-based strategy game made by developers, Chucklefish. It feature's a rich campaign where you lead a rogue-lite conquest with a set of commanders in its story mode. The game's combat is turn-based and there is a lot of strategy that comes with that. As a result, you feel the weight of each war time decision that falls into your hands.

Story

“Embark on an all-new adventure, filled with unlikely friendships, unknown adversaries, and ugly revenge plots. Three years have passed since Queen Mercia and her allies defeated the ancient adversaries and restored peace to Aurania. Now, an ambitious foreign faction is unearthing forbidden technologies that could have catastrophic consequences for the land and its people. Only bold decisions, smart resourcing, and tactical know-how can repair a fractured realm…”, States the Wargroove 2 game page.

As far as story content goes, Wargroove 2 will feature three interwoven story campaigns. Of course, your goal in all of this conquest will be to uphold the evil forces from causing Aurania's demise. Nonetheless, we expect Wargroove 2's plot to be immersive and run deep throughout each mission and campaign just as it did before. Offering a great blend of story and gameplay while you battle a new enemy and force that is stronger than ever.

Gameplay

wargroove 2

Wargroove 2's combat system has been partially revamped while maintaining the familiar feel of the original game, which fans loved. The most notable addition is each commander's unique “groove” ability, which when supercharged has a devastating effect on enemies and changes the forecast of most battles. While waiting for your commander's groove to supercharge, a new tiered groove system will allow for strategic attacks and the use of special abilities.

Aside from the story campaigns, Wargroove 2 will feature a new single-player mode known as conquest. This can be described as a hardcore mode where health and gold remain the same after each skirmish. Conquest is Ideal if you're up for more of a challenge. Of course, co-op and multiplayer are back, with local and online modes with up to four players. Ultimately, each mode in Wargroove 2 looks to offer dynamic gameplay consisting of new enemies and five new unit types, which we don't know the details of just yet.  Nonetheless, they should provide more exciting ways to strategize the game's turn-based combat.

The in-game editor is a popular and unique feature of the series. However, it's revamped in Wargroove 2. This time around, you will be able to edit maps, rules, and cutscenes, and build your own world and even campaigns in it. As a result, you can expect Wargroove 2 to have a thriving community of fan-made content for you to explore; just as you did in the original. However, this time around, with the revamped system, players now have more creative control than ever before. As a result, you can expect an even higher caliber of fan-made content to sink your teeth into.

Development

Wargroove 2

Publisher Chucklefish have collaborated with Robotality, the creators of fan-favorite titles, Pathway and Halfway, both of which are turn-based strategy 8-bit games. So, you can rest assured, Wargroove 2 is in good and dependable hands. In terms of development, we can only assume that, given the success of the original game, Chucklfish jumped the gun and jumped right into developing Wargroove 2 as quickly as they could.

Trailer

Wargroove 2 - Announcement Trailer

Wargroove 2 was officially announced on March 8th, 2023 and it was accompanied by an announcement trailer. However, given that the trailer was quite detailed and showed off lots of gameplay, it felt more like a fully pledged gameplay trailer. In it, you can see the new combat system in action, which appears to be very fluid.

Furthermore, the trailer shows off many different areas of the new map. From that, we know the campaigns will take place on tropical islands, forests, and deserts. However, the trailer did not show many new units or enemies. Hopefully, we'll learn more about the mysterious characters and enemies in the coming weeks with another trailer or blog post from Chucklefish. So be sure to stay tuned to their game page, here.

Release Date, Platforms & Editions

Wargroove 2

Currently, the release date of Wargroove 2 is “To Be Announced”. However, it is slated for 2023. Sadly, there are no hint's as to when the release is projected, but based on the initial announcement and how far the game appears to be in development, we can assume it will be in Q3 or Q4 of 2023.

Wargroove 2 has been confirmed for release on PC and Nintendo Switch. There is currently no word on whether it will be available for PlayStation or Xbox. However, if we look back to the first game, it was released for PC, Nintendo Switch, and a ported version for Xbox and PlayStation in the following months. With that in mind and the success of the first game, it is difficult to think Wargroove 2 won't eventually land on every platform; hopefully, it's just a matter of time.

Since the announcement of Wargroove 2 is still fairly recent, there isn't any information about game editions just yet. However, it goes without saying that there will be some sort of pre-order and, most likely a couple of tiers offering in-game bonuses such as DLC and cosmetic items. The original Wargroove released a deluxe edition with a digital soundtrack, strategy manual, Aurania map, and sprite stickers. So, you can expect something similar to be offered up for Wargroove 2. Once we know more be sure to check out gaming.net as we'll have the details for you, right here.
