Deliver Us Mars: Everything We Know

It's been a long time coming, but finally, after a good four years of badgering the poor folks over at KeokeN Interactive, the sequel to 2018's Deliver Us the Moon has finally been confirmed. And the best part is, the sequel to the sci-fi sleeper hit (aptly titled Deliver Us Mars) will be coming out much earlier than we anticipated. But what do we actually know about it, other than it being a well-deserved sequel to one of 2018's most slept on adventure-puzzle games? Well, here's everything we can tell you based on the information its developer has already provided.

What Is Deliver Us Mars?

Deliver Us Mars is an upcoming sci-fi adventure game by KeokeN Interactive, and the direct sequel to Deliver Us the Moon, one of 2018's most underrated puzzle-adventure games of its time. Like its first chapter, the sequel will put its players on a wide-scale planet, a world in which puzzles are plentiful and lore circulates the bare bones of a collection of creepily vacant biomes.

“Sequel to the award-winning Deliver Us The Moon, Deliver Us Mars is an atmospheric sci-fi adventure offering an immersive astronaut experience,” the blurb reads in part. “Explore new frontiers on a suspense-fuelled, high-stakes mission to recover the ARK colony ships stolen by the mysterious Outward.”

Story

So, what is Deliver Us Mars all about, exactly? Well, according to its devs, the story will take place roughly ten years after the events of the first. After receiving a distress call from the barren lands of Mars, the Zephyr must investigate and recover the the ARK. This is, in short, a colony of ships that hold the fate of humanity. To this end, you must step forward and brave the dusky depths of Mars, using everything in your inventory to beat the haze and, in turn, preserve the human race.

“After a mysterious distress call from Mars, join the Zephyr and its crew as they journey to the red planet and seek to recover the ARK colony ships stolen by the mysterious Outward, and with them, ensure the survival of the human race,” the official game description reads.

Gameplay

Building on the foundations of its predecessor, Deliver Us Mars will look to incorporate a third-person perspective and a conveniently placed, albeit almost identical camera-hugging angle. As for the actual gameplay, players can expect to indulge in mostly puzzle-based segments, a lot of which will have you making use of your arsenal of advanced sci-fi gadgetry and whatnot. And to add, there will also be plenty of aimlessly wandering around in the lore-riddled biomes of Mars, either through various research facilities, dusty canyons, or electrified fields.

“Journey from Earth to the surface of Mars and endure its harsh and unforgiving terrain as you hope discover the secrets of Outward,” the blurb reads in part. “Use both brains and brawn to overcome mental and physical challenges, find the ARKs, and uncover the motivations of those behind the distress call that brought you here.”

Development

Deliver Us Mars is being developed by KeokeN Interactive, an indie studio that found its start back in 2018 with the award-winning sci-fi puzzler Deliver Us the Moon. In a bid to cash in on the newfound IP, the firm eventually went on to lay the foundations for a sequel, Deliver Us Mars. This will serve as the developer's second game since being established as an up-and-coming Netherlands-based studio.

“Every moment is handcrafted, delivering a suspense-filled, emotion-fuelled narrative alongside music from award-winning composer Sander Van Zanten, state-of-the-art motion capture, stunning graphics and realtime ray traced shadows and reflections, powered by Unreal Engine,” KeokeN Interactive adds.

Deliver Us Mars - Reveal Trailer | PS5, PS4

Developer KeokeN first lifted the veil on Deliver Us Mars back in March 2022. Although short and to the point, its minute-long reveal did go on to paint the general aesthetic of the sequel and highlight some of its core features. Since then, Deliver Us Mars has received a number of follow-up trailers, most notably the gameplay trailer. You can catch the 2022 announcement for the game in the video above.

Release Date, Platforms & Editions

Deliver Us Mars will be coming to Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store on February 2, 2023. At present, there hasn't been any word on it coming to Nintendo Switch, though it does seem unlikely, given the fact that its prequel, Deliver Us the Moon, was originally planned to receive a Switch port, but was subsequently cancelled.

Unfortunately for Game Pass and PlayStation Plus subscribers, neither subscription-based platform will be getting Deliver Us Mars as a day-one exclusive. This is subject to change, though at present, it seems highly unlikely. 2024, though, perhaps?

There are two editions that you can currently pre-order via Steam, Epic Games Store, or direct from the Deliver Us Mars website: Standard, and Deluxe. Curious to know more? Here's what you'll get with each edition:

Standard Edition

  • Deliver Us Mars

Deluxe Edition

  • Deliver Us Mars
  • Official Original Soundtrack
