War Hospital: Everything We Know

We have all died hundreds if not thousands of times in video games. And without much thought, we just respawn and get right back into the action. On the other hand, when we get injured, we just apply some bandages or meds and carry on our merry way. But what if we actually had to deal with the wounds of war? To be honest, it would most likely be a pretty gruesome scene. Still, one game has put thought into what goes on behind the brutalities of battle and that game is War Hospital.

Developed by Brave Lamb Studio, War Hospital takes you off the frontlines and places you in the medical tent as a war doctor. Faced with hundreds of life-threatening injuries, your one goal is to save the lives of those who were caught in the crossfires of war. It's a pretty novel concept and one that has piqued our interest. So, if you want to learn more about the game then read on to find out everything we know about War Hospital.

What is War Hospital?

War Hospital

War Hospital is a new single-player 3D isometric RTS where you play as a doctor of war. Set during WW1, you manage a field hospital, leading the medical corps. Straying from the conventional gameplay of war-based videogames where you play as a soldier on the frontline. So, while everyone is out taking lives, you'll be back at camp saving them. That may sound better than being in the trenches, but it's still not a pretty picture.

Story

War Hospital

According to the War Hospital Steam page, “The year is 1918. You are major Henry Wells, a retired British combat medic, drafted back and thrown into the nightmare of World War I. Understaffed and undersupplied, you are the last bastion of hope for countless soldiers at the French Front.”

As a result, it looks the weight of the war will fall onto your soldiers. But, as an experienced field medic, you have the skills necessary to save thousands of lives. It's not going to be an easy job and there will surely be disappointments, but you must preserver for the chance to save just one more life.

Gameplay

War Hospital

In terms of gameplay, it appears you will have a lot on your hands in War Hospital. On the injury front, you'll have to deal with anything from bullets, shelling, and chemical-based injuries, to mental trauma and more. What's more, dealing with low amounts of resources, you'll have to face the difficult question of whether it is worth wasting resources to save one life at the expense of two others. There is no right answer; nonetheless, every decision will have both short and long-term consequences.

On top of treating injuries, you'll need to manage your medical camp, its supplies, and the doctors and nurses working for you. Meaning, you'll have to account for what facilities and supplies you need to get the job done. You'll need to manage your nursing crew, putting them on shifts so they don't get too fatigued or lose morale. When dealing with new wounds, you'll either need to purchase new medical equipment or take a drastic approach and cut corners in hopes to save a life.

Overall, War Hospital's gameplay requires you to manage every facet of administering a medical war camp. But, despite all of your responsibilities, your one main aim is to keep the military hospital running at all costs so the frontline can stay afloat.

Development

War Hospital

War Hospital is being developed by Brave Lamb Studio and a new videogame development studio. They have yet to release their first title and have spent the previous two years working on War Hospital and their other project, Enemy of the State. The idea of War Hospital itself is an original one and looks like it's coming to fruition quite well. So, as long as gamers receive their first two titles well, it should just be a matter of time before they are a well-known developing studio.

Trailer

War Hospital | Commented Gameplay Trailer

War Hospital has delivered multiple trailers over its two year-development period. Firstly a Cinematic Trailer, and most recently the Official Letter to Elisabeth trailer. However, the one trailer that gives the best insight into the game and drives the most excitement for us is the Commented Gameplay trailer, which we have embedded above. Which of the three game trailers do you like the most?

Release Date, Platforms & Editions

War Hospital is set to release on August 31, 2023. The game itself will release for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, as well as PC via Steam. Although there is no proposed timeline for the Nintendo Switch, we imagine it will make its way to the portable console in the coming months after its launch.

Aside from that, there aren't any other editions of the game that are expected to release. But, with a concept this novel, we're already running crazy with the amount of DLC that could work for it. But let's first see how War Hospital actually plays before we get too carried away.

Be sure to wishlist War Hospital on Steam for when it releases. Other than that, stay tuned to Gaming.net as we'll be sure to provide any updates and news on War Hospital when it sheds. In the meantime, take a look at these other war-based games that might intrigue you.
