Microsoft's decision to acquire Activision-Blizzard, the maker of Call of Duty games, sparked excitement in the gaming community. For the gamers, it might mean Xbox exclusives, possible revival of older games, and some exciting new titles.

On the flip side, many were concerned that the acquisition might make Microsoft an influential force in the industry (a little too influential for people's liking). And some U.S. senators have echoed similar concerns over the acquisition. They have written a letter to the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) asking them to look into it.

According to the reports, Senators Bernie Sanders, Cory Booker, Sheldon Whitehouse, and Elizabeth Warren have expressed their worries about the matter. They all believe that if this deal goes through, it could potentially “exacerbate the flurry of sexual abuse, harassment and retaliation allegations at Activision stemming from recent federal and state investigations.”

The senators are of the opinion that the acquisition might wash away a chunk of the allegations and the publisher might not have to undergo intense scrutiny that it otherwise would. Meanwhile, some others have been concerned that the acquisition might have had some insider trading.

Right after the reports of this letter to FTC, Activision-Blizzard responded with a statement. It said that Microsoft supported Activision-Blizzard's goals and they're working towards enhancing the work culture in the company.

In an earlier incident, Brad Smith, the President at Microsoft, had stated that they would make sure to put the “right people” in charge. Despite these reassurances, people continue to be concerned. They are worried that once the acquisition happens, Activision-Blizzard might not face serious consequences for the issues. As of now, the deal has not been officially approved, but both parties seem positive that it will go through.

Activision-Blizzard has been having a tumultuous year with workplace harassment lawsuits and demands for CEO Bobby Kotick to resign. This acquisition might improve the work culture of the company, but this doesn't assuage the worries that the Democratic Senators have expressed.
