Recent scientific studies indicate that some computer games or consoles may have a positive cognitive influence on humans. The eSports industry has been booming and increasing competitiveness among gamers, individuals who develop capabilities that can be mobilized in the engineering field.

Over the past few years, researchers associated with leading universities have devoted their time to studying the influence of celebrated video games, helping to deconstruct the notion that they do nothing more than increase people's sedentary levels. Recent studies indicate that gambling can contribute to improving an individual's quality of life and even reducing the effects of mental illness.

One of the main studies regarding the impact of playing video games was carried out at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development and the Hedwig-Krakenhaus University of Medicine in Berlin. Scholars have concluded that gambling can have a direct impact on brain regions responsible for memory, spatial orientation, and information organization. Another conclusion from this study revealed that playing video games can positively influence the motor performance of humans.

Scholars associated with the University of Rochester also devoted their research to the influence of video games, coming to an interesting conclusion. The data gathered allowed us to realize that the games increase the visual ability of gamers, making them more responsive to different shades.

Competitions are usually held in audience halls and online streaming services have enhanced and given visibility to competitions, to the extent that bookmakers have odds for them which by 2019 already have over 350 million views worldwide. Successful video games like Fortnite, Counter-Strike, Dota 2, Call of Duty or League of Legends are among the most played in eSports competitions. South Korea, China, Taiwan, Sweden, Germany, Austria and Finland are some of the nations that already recognize eSports as a sport.

The growth of the industry is such that the Asian Olympic Council (COA) has already announced that eSports will be one of the modalities at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China. At the 2018 Asian Games hosted by Indonesia, a test format eSports competition was held.

The investment of some of the main emblems of world football in the formation of eSports teams is another fact that helps to explain the importance of the industry. Several traditional football teams around the world have athletes dedicated to eSports. Video game competitions are no longer held in small “lan houses” as in the past, attracting thousands of spectators to large arenas.
