Pancake Games is cooking up an entirely new action-packed adventure game called Slime Heroes, which is currently set to release on consoles and PC at some point in the (hopefully) not-so-distant future. From the looks of its elevator pitch, it’ll be a game about—wait for it—slime, and its ability to morph into cutesy creatures that just so happen to have the power to “save the world from a mysterious corruption.” As for what that corruption in question might look like, however, is still something of a mystery, which is all the more reason to keep it stapled to the docket.

Anyway, if you are interested in seeing a little more of Slime Heroes’ characters and their supernatural abilities and what have you, then be sure to read on for the full scoop. Here’s everything we can currently tell you about it based on the information that has been provided to date.

What Is Slime Heroes?

Snowy setting (Slime Heroes)

Slime Heroes is an upcoming action-adventure game about, well, slime…creatures—vibrant beings that have the power to morph themselves into crime-fighting blobs. The game, which will be available as both a single-player and a co-op game, will see players submerging into a tropical locale that’s absolutely bursting with monsters of all shapes and sizes. What’s more, there’ll also be crafting, skills, secrets, and an entire open world to explore, too. So, quite a lot of bang for your buck, all things considered.

“Journey with your fellow slimes to save the ancient guardians from a mysterious corruption taking over the land,” reads an excerpt from the elevator pitch. “Explore a whimsical world filled with secret passageways, challenging puzzle dungeons and forgotten treasures. Consume special gems and dynamically combine them to create unique magical skills. Level up and fight back against the corrupted minions to restore the land.”

Story

Combat (Slime Heroes)

Going by the details that Pancake Games left out earlier this week, Slime Heroes will tell a story “where slimes are actually the heroes… the only creature that can save the world from a mysterious corruption.” The corruption, which appears to have something to do with the six gods that occupy the region, will pose numerous challenges and curveballs for the players to overcome, either alone, or with another friend in the game’s built-in co-op mode.

As it stands, not a whole lot is known about the story, other than the six gods in question having evil counterparts. Naturally, it’ll be your responsibility to explore the region and put an end to their existence—an achievement that’ll reward you with the aid of the other, better-behaved gods and their powers. Unfortunately, the rest of the plot is mostly under wraps, so we’ll just have to resort to speculation at this moment in time.

Gameplay

Open-world exploration and combat will clearly play a huge part in the overall gameplay experience, from the looks of it. In addition to all that, there’ll also be skill trees to flesh out—specialist nodes that can be altered and upgraded through the use of the gems that will be scattered all around the world. According to the devs, players will be able to mix and match said gems to create dynamic skill sets and other combat-focused abilities.

Pancake Games has also made it clear that the game will be available to play in its entirety both alone and with another friend in a co-op mode. So, if you’re looking to load up on the slimy antics of a cutesy co-op beat ‘em up, then look no further, basically.

“A game where the slimes are finally the heroes,” Pancake Games’ press release adds. “Play together with your friends as adorable slimes – the only thing that can save the world from the evil oozy creatures and formidable bosses. Discover different weapons and create your own unique magic abilities to express the way you want to adventure.”

Slime Heroes will be launching on Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. As for whether or not it’ll arrive on PlayStation or Switch is still unclear, though from the sounds of it, it’ll be exclusive to Microsoft platforms.

Edition-wise, there isn’t much to touch base on. In fact, there’s only the one standard edition to keep tabs on. You can go ahead and add that to your wishlist on the Microsoft Store, Steam, and the Epic Games Store today.
