PlayStations New Three-Tier Subscription Service Announced
All the rumors and leaks circulating PlayStations new subscription service have come true. Coming to PS4 and PS5 consoles this June, PlayStations new Subscription service will follow a three-tier format. Allowing users to pick the benefits they want through one of the monthly packages with each tier progressively adding more content at an increased price.
Playstation stated that with the new release their “focus is on providing high-quality, curated content with a diverse portfolio of games”. I'm sure you're dying to know what these games are, how the tiers function, and what perks they offer. That's why I have a full breakdown of the announcement from the PlayStation Blog below and the list of exciting new games to come with its release in June.
PlayStations New Subscription Tiers
Following a three-tier format, the new subscriptions and their included benefits are all listed below.
PlayStation Plus Essential
The first tier of the package which is identical to PlayStation Plus includes:
- Two monthly downloadable games
- Exclusive discounts
- Cloud Storage for saved games
- Online multiplayer access
The pricing is identical in payments to PlayStation Plus at $9.99 monthly / $24.99 quarterly / $59.99 yearly. Good to note, previous users of PlayStation Now and Plus will automatically be transitioned to the PlayStation Plus essential tier.
PlayStation Plus Extra
The second tier will include everything from the first tier and:
- Adds a catalog of up to 400* PS4 and PS5 games
- Blockbuster hits from PlayStation Studios and third-party partners
- All games in this tier are downloadable for play
The pricing for the second tier is slightly increased to $14.99 monthly / $39.99 quarterly / $99.99 yearly.
PlayStation Plus Premium
Is by far the most generous, including all the benefits from both the first tiers and:
- An additional 340* games
- PS3 games available via cloud streaming
- A catalog of downloadable and streamable games from the original PlayStation, PS2, and PSP generations.
- Time-limited game trials before purchasing
This is the most expensive tier, valued at $17.99 monthly / $49.99 quarterly / $119.99 yearly.
Titles Upon Launch
Buckle in because PlayStation really means business. Upon launch, they plan to release titles such as:
- Death Stranding
- God of War
- Marvel’s Spider-Man
- Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales
- Mortal Kombat 11
- Returnal.
You're best off getting the Extra or Premium subscription, as you'll most likely want to dive into all of these titles if you haven't already. Regardless these new PlayStation subscription offerings are far better than what we have seen on any other platform and make for a huge incentive to game on PlayStation.
