Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2

Sequels are always a second chance to entice fans. Thankfully, Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 took the opportunity with good grace. It’s bigger and better than its predecessor. While you’ll often compare it to Super Smash Bros., the sequel now makes it an actual, fair comparison. Whether it’s in-depth mechanics, vibrant visuals, or combat pacing, Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 delivers above-par and then some.

You even get to test out an all-new Slime system that potentially changes the trajectory of platform fighters to come. It gives you not only clever ways to duke it out with your opponent but also infuse plenty of combo variation. Evidently, there’s plenty to get up to speed on in the sequel. So, we’ve compiled the best Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 tips to help you climb up the ranks quickly. Tag along.

5. Choose Your Character Wisely

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 - All Characters & Stages *Updated*

The roster in the sequel is much bigger and better. We do have a few characters chopped off the list from the predecessor. But in their place, new, interesting fan-favorites take their place. Some of them include Azula, Jimmy Neutron, and the Angry Beavers. The beauty of a booming roster list – 25 playable characters in total—is that there are plenty of options to switch strategy and playstyle.

Each Nick toon character is special and unique in their own right. Also, not every character is as straightforward as they may seem in their respective franchises. Take SpongeBob Squarepants, for example. His clumsy and clueless self has been turned into a badass force to be reckoned with. Don’t worry. His fun-loving, hyperactive self remains intact.

You’ll find some characters are more effective than others. Aang, Spongebob, Korra, Azula, Nigel, Reptar, and El Tigre, for instance, are some of the top-tier characters you can rely on. If you like to chain combos, stringing them together without giving your opponent a chance to breathe, El Tigre is perfect for you. Reptar, on the other hand, is your tank build that can withstand a lot of damage and, in turn, unleash heavy hitters to throw opponents off their game.

Meanwhile, Azula is pretty quick on her feet. She’s the perfect hit-and-run character to land swift attacks and get away from enemy range just as fast. Aang’s is great with magic attacks. And then there’s SpongeBob, who’s a perfectly balanced character that suits any playstyle. No matter the character you choose, experiment with them to see if they fit your needs. Otherwise, switch them up to find your soft spot and liking.

3. Always on the Move

It comes as no surprise that staying stagnant will get you killed. So, always be on the move. You have multiple ways to dash forward and backward, whether a small dash or sprint. Alternatively, you can perform air dodges and dashes, too. Keep your opponent guessing to evade their attacks and land slick combos.

3. Know Your Recovery Options

For the first time ever, Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 has introduced multiple platforms on its stages. It makes fights interesting as characters get knocked off the stage. But did you know that you have opportunities to recover from a fall? You can exploit the repertoire of moves the game offers to grab onto the ledge and come back swinging with a more devastating attack.

The basic form is, of course, jumping up to reach the ledge. Or using your special attacks. But you can also perform air dashes to propel you back onto the ledge. Meanwhile, the air dash will help you dodge any forthcoming edge guards. Alternatively, you can jump onto the stage and dodge forward. Or, perform a get-up to stand up from the ledge. When you perform a Shield, it can also let you roll onto the stage with extra invincibility. Or, drop down first, then re-grab the ledge.

Make sure to keep note of your character, as some, like Reptar, lack any recovery game. Also, feel free to use reverse psychology on players. Such that, if you know your opponent’s recovery options, you can anticipate their next move when KO’d off the stage.

2. You’ve Been KO’d!

Though not explicitly stated, some moves are powerful enough to perform KOs called “kill moves.” Ideally, they’ll knock your opponent off the stage. Once you know your kill moves, find the perfect opportunity to unleash them. Preferably when your opponent lacks a recovery game or cannot use slime to tip the scales back in their favor.

1. Slime, Slime, Slime

Now on to the best of all Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 tips. Slime is going to be a game-changer, not only in the series but in the genre as a whole. It introduces opportunities to make fights far more interesting. That’s because the options are limitless when using the slime meter. First, you need to build up the meter by performing attacks on opponents. Thereafter, that green goo can be used for all manner of purposes, including power-ups, canceling attacks, activating character-specific special attacks, extending aerial recovery, and much more.

With three bars on the Slime Meter, you can use one of the bars to power up your charge attacks. Or, use it to power up your character-specific special attack. Alternatively, you can cancel out a light attack in favor of a more powerful attack. From kill moves to more in-depth combos, the options are limitless. It, in turn, helps to shield you from taking damage where, say, you do a light attack but the opponent comes in with a stronger combo.

With a risk-reward attached to it, where using the Slime Meter expends its bars, you must assess the best moments to take advantage of it. Perhaps there are moments when you’re close to death or about to lose. It can make all the difference in your effort to stay alive. Meanwhile, the Slime Meter can also be used to boost your shield's health. Or, you can use up two bars to cancel knockbacks, thus prolonging your recovery.
