Neil Newbon as Astarion Wins the Best Performance at The Game Awards 2023
Neil Newbon as Astarion in Baldur's Gate 3 has been announced as the winner of the Best Performance category at The Game Awards 2023.
The Best Performance category is ‘awarded to an individual for voice-over acting, motion, and/or performance capture.’ The award celebrates the incredible talent and dedication of voice-over actors and motion-capture performers.
The 2023 nominees represented a diverse array of characters and narratives that showcased the evolving landscape of video game storytelling. The nominees included:
- Ben Starr as Clive: Final Fantasy 16
- Cameron Monaghan as Cal Kestis: Star Wars Jedi: Survivor
- Idris Elba as Solomon Reed: Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty
- Melanie Liburd as Saga Anderson: Alan Wake 2
- Yuri Lowenthal as Peter Parker: Marvel's Spider-Man 2
Christopher Judge, last year's Best Performance winner, took the stage to announce and award the winner. Judge won the award for Best Performance during the Game Awards in 2022 for his role as Kratos in God of War Ragnarok. However, he left a remarkable memory during the award ceremony last year for delivering the longest acceptance speech in Game Awards history. His speech was 7 minutes, 59 seconds long.
Oh, yeah, he didn't forget to throw jabs at this year's Call of Duty's campaign length by cheekily remarking that even his acceptance speech from last year was longer.
Neil Newbon's masterful performance brought Astarion to life, seamlessly navigating the character's internal conflicts and contributing to the immersive narrative of Baldur's Gate 3. His ability to convey Astarion's depth and emotional range undoubtedly left a lasting impact on players, making his win at The Game Awards a well-deserved recognition of his talent and dedication to the craft of voice acting.
