Forza Motorsport 2023: Everything We Know

The 2023 lineup of upcoming games looks promising, with games like Forspoken, Hogwarts Legacy, and Skull & Bones under way. Among the most anticipated games for Xbox Game Studios is Forza Motorsport, which is part of a series of simulation racing games that have been in existence since 2005. In fact, the first Forza racing game was also titled Forza Motorsport

However, you can definitely expect modern improvements to the visuals, mechanics, gameplay, and much more in the upcoming Forza Motorsport 2023. But what else do we know about it? Is there a release date, trailer, and details on the gameplay or story? Be sure to stick around till the end of this article as we deep dive into Forza Motorsport 2023: Everything We Know So Far.

What is Forza Motorsport 2023?

Forza Motorsport 2023: Everything We Know

Forza Motorsport 2023 is an upcoming game in the Forza racing simulation series. You may already know the first 2005 game in the series by the same name. This was first released in the original Xbox. Later on, the adrenaline-infused Forza Motorsport 7 racing game was released in 2017.

Gamers often compare Xbox’s Forza to PlayStation’s Gran Turismo. That’s because they both are racing franchises featuring stunning visuals, overwhelming car rosters, and the most realistic online racing simulations. Over the years, Forza has built a reputation for releasing games with incredibly detailed physics and handling. They’ve taken cars straight out of the real world and optimized them for a truly seamless racing experience.

So, is the upcoming game a follow-up or a 2005 reboot of sorts? Well, Forza Motorsport 2023 is indeed a follow-up to Forza Motorsport 7. So we presume that means it’ll be an advanced step, physics-wise, from Forza Motorsport 7. In addition, the new game will be a reboot of sorts of the entire series in general, built from the ground up for new-gen consoles and PC.

When released, Forza Motorsport 2023 will be the 8th installment in the Forza racing-sim series.

Story

Forza games aren’t particularly known for their story campaigns. Rather, they model circuits from the real-world, or create fictional ones, and allow players to show off their racing skills at incredible speeds. In regard to Forza Motorsport 2023, it remains unclear whether the game will feature a story campaign or players will simply climb up the ranks as they win more races. Time will tell on this one.

Gameplay

So far, we know there will be at least 40 cars in Forza Motorsport 2023 based on early release footage. Some of the all-new cars you can expect include the Audi RS E-Tron GT and Nissan 370Z Nismo. Besides content, the developers have claimed to make a “huge generational leap,” evolving the new game’s physics from Forza Motorsport 7

It seems tire colliding is no longer featured. However, the refresh rates will upgrade from 60Hz to 360Hz, while the fidelity will upgrade from one to eight points of contact. Also, players will choose between soft, medium, and hard tires, which will no doubt affect racing strategy.

It seems like multiplayer is out of the picture. The feature seems to be traded for a more immersive experience that includes free-practice sessions and strategy options with real race times.

The developers also want to build the track environments anew, with changes to countryside detail, dynamic weather, and temperature too. The environmental concepts and time of day effects will, in turn, affect things like grip. But besides the scenic changes, all-new tracks will be introduced, including South Africa’s Kyalami and a fictional Japan Circuit Hakone.

There’ll also be aspects like fuel and tire management and deep customization options. All of these affect vehicle performance and hopefully elevate the overall racing experience.

Development

Forza Motorsport 2023 was first announced as early as 2020. Since then, Turn 10 Studios has been releasing exciting details about the gameplay and an estimated release period.

There still is plenty we don’t know. However, what’s clear is Forza Motorsport 2023 intends to break new ground, fully maximizing the power of the Xbox Series X hardware. I mean, it’s pretty evident the huge steps Turn 10 Studios have taken to elevate the visuals of the new game. Or, at least, from early-release footage.

While previous Forza titles used the ForzaTech engine, Turn 10 Studios plans to build Forza Motorsport 2023 from the ground up using the upcoming Fable reboot designed by PlayGround Games.

Since the game plans to launch on the high-tech Xbox Series X consoles, perhaps it’ll make use of some of its newest exciting features, like ray tracing technology. We can already see applications of this technology in the rendering of cars and environments.

Ray tracing helps to accurately depict realism on a wide selection of textures and surfaces, all while racing in-game. Plus, the developers have hinted at a serious upgrade to the car physics depicted in previous games.

In June 2022, an official Forza Motorsport 2023 trailer was released. It showcases some fantastic gameplay. You can see the lush tracks and definite use cases of ray tracing technology being applied. Most comments after the official trailer had one thing in say, that the graphical innovations are definitely grander than ever before.

The announcement trailer at the 2022 Xbox and Bethesda Games showcase doesn’t reveal much. However, it does showcase impressive engine physics, which we can’t wait to try.

Release Date, Platforms & Editions

As of now, we’re yet to get a hold of an actual release date. All we know is that Forza Motorsport 2023 is slated to launch sometime in the early Spring of 2023. If we’re to get more specific, we’d estimate a March to June release window.

As for the platforms, you can expect to play the new game on either a PC or the Xbox Series X/S consoles. Rumors have it that it’ll also launch on Xbox One, though that’s not completely certain.

Otherwise, Xbox Game Pass subscribers can expect to enjoy access to Forza Motorsport 2023 from day one. There will also be a separate Steam release.
