Elder Scrolls Online: Necrom — Everything We Know

Bethesda Softworks' ever-expanding MMORPG is about to receive its next Chapter, and it comes in the form of Necrom, an all-new tale that will reignite the fires of Morrowind and the Prince of Knowledge's darkest secrets. So, what do we actually know about Elder Scrolls Online: Necrom? Well, here's everything we've been able to gather on it since it first came to light a few months back.

What Is Elder Scrolls Online: Necrom?

Necrom is the eighth chapter in the subscription-based Elder Scrolls Online, a MMORPG that has been going strong for the best part of nine years now. Its latest expansion, which will return to Morrowind (specifically, Telvanni Peninsula), will introduce players to a brand new class—the Arcanist—along with a slew of new story arcs, public figures, and landmarks.

“Featuring 30 hours of all-new story content, the Necrom Chapter takes you into two weird-but-wonderful new zones,” the site reads. “First, venture across the Telvanni Peninsula to discover more about the lore of the Dark Elves who call this part of Morrowind home. Then dive deep into the eldritch curiosities held within Apocrypha, the realm of Oblivion that the Daedric Prince of Knowledge claims as his own.”

Story

Necrom bases its story around the Prince of Darkness, hereby known as Hermaeus Mora. Mora, who is in possession of forbidden secrets beyond belief, tasks you, a newly appointed agent, to delve deep in the City of the Dead in search of clues that connect to a conspiracy that involves lifting the lid on Mora's well-kept intelligence.

“In Necrom, you become an agent of Hermaeus Mora tasked with investigating a mysterious threat to the Daedric Prince’s most closely guarded secrets. You must seek out lost knowledge deep within the heart of the City of the Dead and walk between realities to uncover a vast conspiracy powerful enough to endanger Nirn and Oblivion alike.”

Gameplay

For those who don't know a great deal about Elder Scrolls Online, it's a first-person fantasy MMORPG. In the latest Chapter, returning subscribers will not only receive a variety of new mounts, pets, cosmetics, and scrolls, but an all-new hub to quest in, which is Telvanni Peninsula. And if this doesn't ring a bell, then we can only describe the locale as being on the eastern section of Morrowind, a region that, up until now, has remained rather unscathed. The City of Necrom will serve as the region's central city in which players can trade, collect new quests, and purchase valuable upgrades.

Necrom will introduce a new class to the fold, too: the Arcanist, an arcane magic-wielding warrior with three unique skill lines: Herald of the Tome, Apocryphal Soldier, and Curative Runeforms. Also new with the latest class is a mechanic known as Krux, which essentially lets Arcanists accumulate power during battles and boost their respective abilities.

Development

Elder Scrolls Online is famously known for being one of Bethesda Softworks' most popular MMORPGs of all time, a status which it has held dear ever since the game first came to light way back in 2014. Since then, the fantasy-loving studio has lifted the veil on a total of eight expansions (also known as “Chapters”), which of course includes the upcoming Necrom patch.
