Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 — Everything We Know

“If it’s the truth you seek, look in the dark,” wraps up the invigorating first reveal trailer from Call of Duty’s upcoming Black Ops 6. We now have a couple of juicy pieces of information we can confirm to be officially factual for you. We have a title now and hints about where the story will be headed. So, set aside the rumors and leaks you may have heard. Here is everything we know about the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.

What is Call of Duty: Black Ops 6?

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is an upcoming first-person shooter game. It’ll be the 21st installment in the Call of Duty franchise and the 7th main installment in the Black Ops spin-off series, picking up where Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, released in 2020, left off. The Call of Duty series has been one of the most consistent annual franchises in gaming history. Fans are always on the lookout for the upcoming game in the military shooter franchise. At the moment, Black Ops 6 is the next major entry fans cannot wait to get their hands on.

Although Black Ops 6 has only just been revealed, we already have plenty of information available, thanks to two strange live-action teaser trailers revealed so far. We expect even more information about the upcoming game at the Xbox Games Showcase 2024 event coming up on June 9, 2024, at 10:00 am PT. After the showcase wraps up, it’ll cue in a special presentation dedicated to Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, which will reveal more information about what to expect from the newest, upcoming Call of Duty game.

Story

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6

We are yet to receive confirmation of the official storyline that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will feature. However, we do have hints about the story path it’s likely to take, thanks to two teaser trailers released so far. The first one, titled “Open Your Eyes,” is cryptic and strange, to say the least. It packs plenty of secrets, Easter eggs, and Saddam Hussein, a character many have speculated to be the antagonist for the upcoming game. You see events from the ‘90s and ‘00s, suggesting the story’s setting will likely be historic.

The second teaser trailer, titled “The Truth Lies,” takes us to the Gulf War, an armed conflict between Iraq and the United States between August 1990 and February 1991. This is most likely the setting, at least in part, that the new Black Ops 6 game will take us to. In the trailer, you can probably identify some key historical figures, including Bill Clinton, Saddam Hussein, George H.W. Bush, and Margaret Thatcher. We presume these characters will most likely take center stage in the story.

Call of Duty has been a great marketer, only releasing bits of information to build up hype for upcoming games. Here’s to hoping we get actual gameplay footage on June 9th to put the rumors and leaks to bed.

Gameplay

So far, the teaser trailers we have received are only live-action media and not actual gameplay footage of what’s to come. As such, we don’t have any information on the gameplay to expect just yet. We do know Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will feature a single-player and multiplayer campaign. Here’s to hoping both are compelling and an absolute blast.

Development

Developer Treyarch and RavenSoftware, in partnership with publisher Activision, are currently working on the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. Since 2005, Activision has kept up to speed with a steady annual release schedule. We have had a new Call of Duty game every year since, and 2024 will likely be no different.

However, the upcoming Black Ops 6 will be the first game Activision publishes under the Microsoft umbrella. In 2023, Microsoft acquired Activision Blizzard and the Call of Duty franchise by extension.

While Black Ops 6 has only been recently announced, it’s been in development for over four years now. Activision has released teaser trailers with a few familiar faces. They’re now busy preparing for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Direct on June 9, 2024. All through, development on the game is ongoing, with the final launch likely to be sometime later this year.

Feel free to check out the Truth Lies teaser trailer, out now on YouTube for the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 game. While it’s only live-action footage of what to expect, actual gameplay footage will likely be released on June 6, 2024, at the Xbox Games Showcase.

Release Date, Platforms, & Editions

Unfortunately, we still do not have an exact release date yet. However, if we’re to speculate, the previous iteration in the Black Ops sub-series, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, launched in November 2020. So, perhaps Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will launch sometime in November 2024.

Similarly, we don’t have official confirmation of all the platforms you can expect Black Ops 6 to launch on. For now, we expect the upcoming game to launch on PlayStation and Xbox consoles, as well as PC. It remains unclear whether Black Ops 6 will make it to the Nintendo Switch. We can confirm, though, that Black Ops 6 will be available to play on Xbox Game Pass from Day One of release

As for the editions, the details remain under wraps for now. However, keep an eye out for the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Direct event on June 9, 2024, at 10 am PT, where more information will be revealed.
