Call of Duty Modern Warfare II review

We all have a personal favorite weapon in each new Call of Duty (Cod) game, but with Modern Warfare 2 introducing a total of 51 weapons to customize our loadouts with, it may take some time to figure out which one feels best in your hands. Not to mention unlocking them first. Nonetheless, with each new CoD game, there is always a debate about the best weapon, as one weapon usually stands out above the rest in each class. Finally, with the dust settled, we've compiled our list of the best weapons in Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2.

So if you're looking for which weapons have the best fire rate with the minimalist amount of recoil, these ones will do the trick. And for those of you who love your skill shots and quick scopes, we also have one marksman rifle that has easily proven itself to be the best in its class. So regardless of map, game mode, or playstyle, these are the five best weapons in Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, that you'll want to have in your hands for your next match.

5. SP-R 208

To kick things off, in honor of the Intervention in the original Modern Warfare 2, the marksman rifle that's filling its shoes in today's Modern Warfare 2 is the SP-R 208. This is the first marksman rifle you unlock and if you're looking to quick scope, you don't really have to worry about the ones that come after it. The SP-R 208 has the incredibly quick ADS speed that it'll most likely get nerfed at some point in time. Regardless, for those that love to take a sniper to a gunfight, the SP-R 208 is the best weapon for it.

The SP-R 208 can, of course, one-shot players in the head but also, almost everywhere on the torso. Making quick scopes even more satisfying, and especially aggravating if you're on the receiving end. So far, this has been everyone's go-to marksman rifle in Modern Warfare 2. Regardless of the scope, muzzle, or barrel you prefer, the SP-R 208 works well with all of them. So whatever setup you favor, you can have confidence the SP-R 208 will deliver with it.

4. Lachmann Sub

Best Weapon

It's no secret that in the history of Call of Duty, whoever gets their shot off first usually wins the gunfight. However, due to their insanely fast fire rate, sub-machine guns can usually make up the difference when you're behind by a fraction of a second. One sub-machine gun, that's proving well for many who love the class, is the Lachmann Sub. Despite its ulterior name is essentially an MP5, one of the most iconic sub-machine guns in the CoD franchise.

Another great feature that contributes to the Lachmann Sub being one of the best in its class is that it barely has any recoil. Well, I shouldn't say “barely” since, after all, this is a submachine gun we're talking about. However, when compared to the other SMGs in the game, it is very forgiving. While the Lachmann Sub is one of the best weapons in the game, don't use it in long-range combat because you'll almost always lose.

3. Kastov 762

Best Weapon

Of course, we can't forget about assault rifles, which are the bread and butter of the Call of Duty multiplayer scene. Most of the time, a reliable assault rifle is all you need to get through a night of gaming Modern Warfare 2, and the Kastov 762 is one we've had a lot of fun and confidence with. The recoil on this AR, being an AK in nature, can be difficult to master. On the other hand, its high damage and stopping power make it elite when you can connect your shots. This also makes it dependable in long-range combat.

Regardless of the fact that the recoil is a little difficult to manage and the mobility is on the higher end for an assault rifle, it is easily remedied by adding attachments. This is a good time to mention that the Kastov 762 proves its potential when outfitted with attachments. Then, after some practice, many players consider the Kastov 762 to be not only the best weapon in the game but also their personal favorite.

2. Kastov 74u

Best Weapon

Moving on to our top two picks, which we believe are the best sub-machine gun and assault rifle in the game – essentially, these weapons are at a tie. The first weapon on deck is the Kastov-74U SMG. While the Lachmann Sub still should not be overlooked, the Kastov-74U is highly regarded as the best SMG. In fact, many players would argue that the Kastov-74U is the best weapon in the game, and there's a worthy argument as to why.

Just take a look at its stats. The Kastov-74U has an even keel throughout. It has a high damage output, a fast fire rate, and an impressive range for an SMG. And don't be fooled by the low recoil control; it's not as bad as you might think. Take mobility and handling into account, and there's a strong case to be made that the Kastov-74U is the best weapon in the game.

1. M4

Best Weapon

Neck in neck with the Kastov-74U for the best weapon in the game is the M4. A classic of all FPS games, this weapon needs no introduction. Quite literally for Modern Warfare 2 as it's the first assault rifle you unlock in the game. As to why it's considered the best weapon in the game revolves around the same argument as the Kastov-74U, it has even keel stats. Which makes it an all-around reliable weapon for any situation.

What's also a highlight of the M4 is customizing it. You can take customization to so many different directions with this assault rifle that sometimes you can even get a little bit carried away. But that's also the fun of this weapon that makes it enjoyable in all game modes and reliable with that. In our opinion, you can't go wrong with the M4. So, if you want to advance quickly and have a go-to option for any match, we recommend the M4 as the best assault rifle in the game.
