5 Best Sandbox Games on Roblox

Updated on

Ever since Roblox first established the foundations for a community-built gaming platform, sandbox worlds have become somewhat commonplace. Makes sense, what with the countless elements that allow for its creators to build, collect, and combine blocks, items, and cosemtics in just about any way imaginable. With such a glorious repertoire of ingredients, it comes as no surprise that sandbox games, when all's said and done, make up quite possibly half of the library as a whole.

There is still that alluring question, though; which of the countless sandbox are actually worth playing? Well, if you've managed to find yourself in something of a rut, desperate to build and govern a world of your own, then be sure to check out some of these internationally renowned block-loving Roblox marvels.

5. Build a Boat to Survive

Build a Boat to Survive has been making its rounds as of late, primarily down to the fact that it takes a standard sandbox formula and transforms it into something else entirely. The objective is quite simple: build a vessel using an enormous variety of parts and general cosmetics to traverse a rough-and-ready river course. To do this, you must embark on a selection of journeys through unchartered waters, doing all in your power to work alongside your teammates and navigate its hazards accordingly.

What makes Build a Boat to Survive the popular hit that it is, really, is the fact that it lets you not only tackle the tides on your own, but with an entire crew. It's bread and butter multiplayer with a subtle sandbox twist, and it's also perhaps one of the most engaging games on the Roblox, in general. Is it worth picking up in 2023? Absolutely.

4. Miner's Haven

Miner's Haven plays out in a similar fashion to Minecraft; it's a mining simulator, in short, and it asks only that you utilize your pickaxe to mine, collect, and eventually build a haven of your own design. To do this, as one would expect from a mining simulator, you must journey through a number of diverse biomes and gather enough resources to construct all the bells and whistles needed to outlast the trials and tribulations that wait in tow. Again, bread and butter sandbox components, but complements that gel together remarkably well.

Miner's Haven brings the best of both worlds in its perfectly accessible sandbox platform; a city-building element at heart, but with a heavy dose of role-playing and exploration to boot. Is it the best the subcategory has to offer? Respectfully, it's definitely worth checking out, especially if you enjoy pouring hours into Minecraft.

3. Theme Park Tycoon 2

With just shy of nine years of continuous development under its belt, Theme Park Tycoon 2 holds its spot as one of the best-kept sandbox games on the Roblox frontline. Its concept, similar to the likes of Planet Coaster and Theme Park World, is to have players build their very own amusement parks and cram them with rides, shops, and slideshow attractions. All of this can be completed by utilizing resources and capitalizing on freshly conjured innovations.

Theme Park Tycoon 2 gives you the keys to a plot of land that very well has the potential to be something truly mesmerizing—a cash cow with which you can exploit in every way possible. Either alone or with friends, you can choose from hundreds of set pieces to bulk out your world and transform it into an entertainment marvel with all the perks, cosmetics, and landmarks to make up the best hangout spot on Roblox.

2. Retail Tycoon 2

Retail Tycoon 2 is exactly what it says it is: a retail simulation game in which you're tasked with transforming a relatively small mini mart into a bustling shopping complex with stores, restaurants, and amenities. From humble beginnings to flourishing conclusions with endless pathways to explore, the tycoon-like in question will have you on track to becoming the proprietor of a megaplex that's both profitable and forever trending in the eyes of its goers.

As with most sandbox games on Roblox, Retail Tycoon 2 can be played either alone or with an entire team of budding property managers. It's your combined duty, true to the business simulation formula, to build, manage, and essentially evolve the outlet from grassy roots to a sky-high kingdom. How you go about developing such a prosperous empire, of course, is entirely up to you and the decisions you factor in along the way.

1. BedWars

BedWars is exactly what it says on the tin: a war simulator in which you must use your bed (yes, bed) as a fortress in order to wage war against other bed-loving combatants. Its premise is simple: you must band together with your team and eliminate the other teams on the board, using a mixture of teamwork to upgrade your perks, and combat to whittle down your opponents' forts until only but one remains left in play.

Like a lot of games that are updated on a regular basis on the Roblox front, BedWars enjoys a constant supply of themed events, giveaways, and new modes to trial. Besides the bog-standard battle royale mode that it hosts, players can also throw themselves into the thick of highly addictive Easter Egg hunts, Penguin Survival trials, and even a pirate-themed mode. All in all, there's a ridiculous amount to wrap your head around here, and it'll no doubt keep those creative juices flowing for as long as its developers continue to pour content into its infrastructure. As it currently stands, you can soak up Season 7 in its entirety by joining the servers here.
