Best Games Like All Quiet In The Trenches

Totally Not Aliens dropped the early access of All Quiet in the Trenches on January 17, 2024. The game is available for PCs via Steam on Microsoft Windows, Steamdeck, and Linux. It's a turn-based RPG set in the World War I era and is expected to remain in early access for the next two years. In this early access version, players will catch the World War I action between 1915 and 1916. The events until 1918 are set to come up sequentially in the game as updates.

The survival game fandom can test All Quiet in the Trenches' anti-war gameplay, where you control a group of 12 soldiers battling in the war. Here, players unleash their wit by making decisions amid the intense emotions of exhaustion, insecurity, and mourning. You control the soldiers and take care of their needs while striking a balance between their survival and the demands of your seniors. Each decision you make brings a unique story and an adrenaline rush that only those who've played games alike can understand. Here are five of the best games, like All Quiet in the Trenches, that come so close to what it's gameplay feels like, serving as a good taste of the early access title.

5. The Pale Beyond

The Pale Beyond - Official Launch Trailer

Launched in February 2023, The Pale Beyond is an antarctic exploration video game from Belfast developer Bellar Studios. Like All Quiet in the Trenches, you control a crew in the super-ice setting to ensure they stay alive and survive the ordeal. It's also a game of wits where the player must make crucial decisions like settling arguments and fights among the crew and managing limited food and fuel resources.

The gameplay begins with the player Robin Shaw being interviewed by the Temperance's captain, Hunt. Robin is hired as the veteran captain's first assistant before they start the excursion to find the Viscount, another ship lost in a previous expedition. One month into the voyage, the captain, who is also drunk, disappears, so Robin takes control as the captain not long before the ship gets stranded in the Antarctic ice.

4. Total War: Attila

Total War: ATTILA – Tyrants and Kings Edition – Official Trailer

Creative Assembly put together a hardcore war game in Total War Attila. The ninth standalone title of the Total War series was first released for Windows, Linux, and OS X in February 2015. The game quickly became one of the best strategy video games of the year.

The game is very similar to Total War: Rome II and has the same map size. However, the developers included different cities and map regions, extending them into modern Russia.

Casting players to the ancient times of 395 AD, Total War: Attila's gameplay blends real-time tactics with turn-based strategy in an apocalyptic turmoil. Starting with the Roman Empire, you will have extensive territories to control. As you progress, it changes to a struggle for survival amid political fights and enemy threats. Eventually, only the depths you go to survive will determine your fate. You could either brace for the storm and emerge with a barbarian kingdom or become extinct as the last Roman Empire.

3. Pandemic Train

Developer Trigger Labs combined action, simulation, and strategy in the survival game Pandemic Train. Brace yourself for the heat as you try to survive through the war and disease-plagued, unforgiving waste world. The game was released in October 2023 and stuns its fan base with intriguing features such as the persistent train module and travel innovation. Plot your routes and traverse the map with your crew for some metacurrency. Kovalsky is ready to transport you to safety.

In this game, you control a crew aboard a steam engine train cutting through the waste-filled postapocalyptic land. A deadly plague and war ravage the land. The catastrophic epidemic kills its victims in 24 hours and has already wiped out much of the world's population. The world is now in ruins, characterized by riots, panic, and war. You're the only hope, so ideally, the fate of all humanity lies in your hands. Your goal is to lead your team to survive and eventually find a cure for the deadly plague. And oh! You could as well die trying.

It's also a test of your decision-making abilities, but every decision has consequences. Will your pack of dinosaurs survive, or will they become extinct?

The gameplay begins with a mysterious dinosaur egg in a cave far away on an island that hatches to begin the dinosaurs' life. Eventually, you have a pack of dinos that you lead and feed to grow bigger in the unforgiving jungle. You will make all the decisions, and every action affects your survival and that of your pack.
