Respawn and EA have just announced Apex Legends Global Series, and it starts sooner than you imagine. This will be an international series of esports tournaments with a prize pool of 3 million dollars, which is 6 times higher than the previous Preseason Invitational. Here is what we know so far.
Apex Legends has been well received ever since its launch in February of 2019. Although not as massive, Respawn is moving their Battle Royale game step and step closer to the giants like Fortnite.
Global Series Is A Big Step Forward
So far, events like X-Games, Preseason Invitational, and Twitch Rivals have given us a glimpse of what to expect in terms of competitive playstyle. Now, Respawn has decided to transport this to a larger scale, and you can find more details in this video. Since there's a bigger prize pool, we can definitely expect a fiercer competition in Global Series. We wonder who will challenge TSM, the winners of last big Apex Legends tournament.
When Will Global Series Start?
The biggest Apex Legends competition will begin on 25th January, 2020. This is an open tournament on which only PC players can participate. It will span over 60 countries. The registration will start at the beginning of January, and players need to be at least 16 years old (17 for Japan, and 18 for South Korea and Russia). In-depth rules can be found on Apex Legends official website.
So far, there have been announced 12 live events, along with many online matchups. The events will be hosted by EA and Respawn in combination with GLL and PGL.
A Journey To The Top
EA has shared a few details about how this series of tournaments will unfold. “The competitive journey for many will start with online competition, with competitors potentially advancing to live, regional Challenger Events and global Premier Events.”
Global Series Points will be awarded for exceptional performance, and the most succesful teams are going to be invited to one of 4 Global Series Majors. The Majors will take place from March 13 to 15th and will be made out of 100 best Apex Legends squads.
Only 60 of this teams will earn the right to fight in the finale of Apex Legends Globas Series Tournament. Ultimately, the best team will win prize of 1 million dollars. Better start practicing those Pathfinders swings.
