Games with great weapon customization

Sometimes all you want in a game is the freedom to customize to your heart's content. Whether that's for your character, their armor, loadout, or even your base. However, if we're talking first-person shooters, it's most likely gun customization you're going for. And that's exactly what we're looking for here, as we want to find games with great weapon customization. Allowing you to make the most elite or outrageous weapons setups possible.

Have faith that any of these games will satisfy your desire to customize and mod any weapon to your liking. Most of them, being FPS, are based around gun customization, but that didn't prevent us from finding games with extensive melee weapon customization as well. After all, as we all know from video games, even the most unlikely of objects can be turned into weapons. So get your blueprints and drawing board ready, because these are the video games with the best weapon customization to date.

5. Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Breakpoint

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Breakpoint is the latest addition to the Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon series. Not many people are aware that Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon is one of the longest-running video game series, having debuted in 2001 with the original Ghost Recon game. The series has always been a tactical shooter, and as the game has evolved over the years, so have the weapon customization options. Now, the Ghost Recon series is pretty well known for its weapon customization. However, developers Ubisoft, have put an emphasis on gun customization in the latest game in the series, Breakpoint.

All gun customization in Breakpoint is done in-game at the Gunsmith, where you can choose from over 60 weapons and over 30 alternate weapon versions, as well as up to 22 different customization options per weapon. Just keep in mind that all of your choices, right down to the rail cover and barrel, will reflect your weapon's stats, such as accuracy and handling. The paint you use on the weapon, on the other hand, has no effect on it. Which can be a single base option for the entire gun or separate paint jobs for certain components. Allowing you to also get the style you want.

4. Payday 2

If you haven't heard of Payday 2, it's all about robbing banks, jewelry stores, and art galleries as elite burglars. The game was originally released in 2013, which may seem out of date, but that doesn't diminish how good the game was and still is. Even nine years after its initial release, the game still has around 50,000 concurrent players per day. And with PayDay 3 officially announced, and expected sometime in 2023, there really isn't a better time to familiarize yourself with Payday 2.

Aside from the great gameplay, fans love the game's extensive weapon customization, which allows you to be adequately prepared to fight off any police or SWAT forces while on your heist. In the game, you customize guns in the weapon mechanic simulator. As you progress, you'll gain access to more customization options, including the barrel, charging handle, grip, sight, stock, and more. So you can design the ideal covert-op heisting weapon. However, what makes Payday 2's weapon customization some of the best, is the fact that you can go for some really bizarre combinations, which are endlessly entertaining to use.

3. Dead Rising 4

Games with great weapon customization

The Dead Rising series is an action-adventure series about battling hordes of zombies. And, while spraying waves of them down is entertaining, annihilating them with unusual weapons is much more intriguing. And the best example of that can be found in Dead Rising 4. When we say unusual, we mean it, because you can create some bizarre weapons in this game. Like a sledgehammer that sets zombies on fire when you hit them, a sword that freezes them, or a massive ball of Christmas ornaments that explodes with confetti whenever you bash some zombies.

That's just covering a very, very small portion of the melee weapon customization. but we can't forget about the guns too. Take those Christmas ornaments, and put them into a huge Christmas ornament rocket launcher. Or how about a futuristic weapon that completely disappears zombies into thin air? What about a helmet that allows you to shoot acid or ice out of your face?

All of the weapons we've just mentioned are ones that players have customized in the game. Which you can go for, or you can come up with your completely own build. It just goes to show how extensive weapon customization is, allowing you to create some insanely fun and unique combinations.

2. Mothergunship

Games with great weapon customization

Mothergunship is an intense action, run and gun game reminiscent of Quake or Doom's arena shooter combat. However, instead of picking up pre-made guns, in Mothergunship you build futuristic guns from the ground up. No joke, this game has one of the largest and best weapon customization options we've ever seen in a video game. However, it's only fitting given that you're attempting to save Earth from a robotic alien armada led by some massive bosses. So you'll need some massive guns to combat that.

Mothergunship's weapon customization goes beyond simply changing the scope, barrel, or skin of your gun, and includes some of the most bizarre and outright weapons you've ever seen. The extensive weapon customizer lets you comprise pretty much anything you can think of. Do you want a lightning shotgun? Or to duel wield chainguns, with another chaingun on top of it? Why not put a fish tank on your gun? Then choose your ammo from rockets, lasers, bullets, lighting, fire and so much more. Mothergunship is truly intended for the creation of guns and melee weapon monstrosities that are extremely enjoyable to use and test.

1. Escape From Tarkov

Games with great weapon customization

If you're looking for the best and most realistic weapon customization in a game, turn to Escape from Tarkov. The hardcore military-sim game actually extracted all of its weapon components from real-life parts and mods. As a result, you can literally build, customize, and mod weapons from the ground up, however, equally the parts must be compatible. Since they are based on real-life models and parts, consequently, they must fit and function properly with your gun.

The game has over 70 weapons, and to go with that, since developers BattleState Games last mentioned, over 1,000 mods and parts to customize guns with. And that's with the game, still in its beta version. Upon full release, developers are looking to add roughly 4,000 weapon parts and mods into the game. That's why, when it comes to games with great weapon customization, Escape from Tarkov, whose guns customization is also all true and accurate to real-life models, is difficult to beat.
