Halo: Combat Evolved came out in 2001 and was a pioneering game for the shooters as we know today. For the last two decades, the Halo series has been releasing some amazing FPS entries. Halo has great campaign shooters as well as well-structured multiplayer mode.

Halo Infinite caused quite a buzz and was lauded for its new open-world, gunplay, and overall gameplay. When aliens and spaceships are involved, you know that a game is going to be dope. With the new Halo game on line, let's take a look at all the Halo titles and rank the top five!

Top 5 Halo Games, Ranked

The ranking is based on the gameplay, sales, and of course, the overall response to the title.

5. Halo: Reach

halo reach

Halo: Reach predates Halo and basically acts as a prequel to Halo: Combat Evolved. The game surrounds the Noble 6, an anonymous member of the Noble team. As you might have figured out, Master Chief does not feature in this game.

The audience highly praised the graphics and realistic sound effects. The setting of the game was rather foreboding and made players realize that of some impending disaster. The gameplay was like Combat Evolved. However, this entry introduced dogfights in space. And let's not forget the space ostriches. As always, the multiplayer was flawless.

Of course, Halo: Reach is not without its imperfections. Even though it was one of the best-selling Halo games, its characters and plot were not really well-received. The audience praised the graphics and gameplay.

4. Halo 4

multiplayer

Halo 4 was the first-ever game to be created by the Microsoft-owned 343. As you can imagine, the team was under tremendous pressure to deliver something delightful and it did not disappoint. 343 gave us the story-heavy campaign that is critically acclaimed to this day.

343 was careful about maintaining the ‘Halo-ness' and yet added their own streak to the game. Halo 4 has a narrative that keeps you hooked to the end. The multiplayer was rather okayish in comparison to the campaign. Actually, the multiplayer incorporated loadouts and other elements from other popular shooters, which did not go down well with Halo loyalists.

Halo 4 did not check all the boxes. However, the narrative added a rich layer to the Halo story and gave our hero a human touch. The changed multiplayer mode was a setting for upcoming Halo games.

3. Halo 2

After Halo: Combat Evolved garnered nothing but praise, the expectations were set really high for Halo 2. And thankfully, the second entry in the Halo series delivered what it promised.

Halo 2 came out in 2004, almost three years after the first Halo game was released. Fans were eagerly waiting for the next Halo game. However, Halo 2 faced many delays caused due to bad decisions. But as always, the creators presented a fine, finished product that was totally worth the wait.

Interestingly, they released a documentary about the making of the game with Halo 2. It depicted all the sleepless nights and loads of planning prior to the release of Halo. The result was a well-crafted game with a memorable narrative. Halo 2 explored the enemies' side of the story. The game ends with Master Chief making his way to the Earth and it leaves you hanging there.

2. Halo: Combat Evolved

Of course, we cannot leave the original 2001 Halo title out of this list. This was the game that introduced us to Master Chief and gave us some fond memories to look back on. When the Xbox title was launched, it became an instant hit. The game enabled camera movements with the right analog, which was a huge game-changer for FPS games.

Combat Evolved set some interesting benchmarks for almost all the FPS games that came next. For instance, replenishing health, a mechanic that we see in most games, was Halo's original idea. Audio storytelling was also an innovative idea that many games still use today.

Even today, Halo: Combat Evolved feels future-proofed and is pretty fun to play. It was included in Halo: The Master Chief Collection.

1. Halo: Infinite

And the best Halo title of all time is the latest superhit Halo: Infinite. The last year was rocky. In terms of games, the video game industry delivered some of the best games and some of the biggest disappointments. Halo Infinite definitely falls into the former category. As the game rolled out in December 2021, everyone ended their year playing Halo.

Without a doubt, Halo Infinite is one of the finest FPS games of the last decade. The campaign was exciting, the grappleshot feature was cool, and the visuals steal all the show. The weapons are on point and the side quests add a good flavor to the game. A lot of fans agreed that Infinite has brought back the ‘Halo-ness' and the glory.

The characters and story narration were not the best, but the action-packed campaign totally makes up for it. The open-world of Infinite received mixed reviews. In any case, Infinity is the ultra-modern shooter game that we all needed. It has set up a promising foundation for the upcoming Halo games.

Apart from these Halo games, Halo 3 ODST was also a fine game. ODST was the first Halo game that featured an open world. A lot of players would also agree that Halo 3 made a strong statement to the trilogy.
