Valheim Conquers Steam Charts With 5 Million Sales

Updated on

It's fairly common to notice a gradual sales spike for most games on the Steam charts, though not many can drive to the top in a matter of weeks. In fact, that's pretty much unheard of these days. So then, why has Valheim just ramped up the benchmark and stolen the show this month? With a total of five million sales since its February 2nd launch, this Viking monster has managed to break into Steam's top five best-selling games of all time. Oh, and did I mention it's an early access game, too?

All around the globe, players are gravitating towards the mega-hit that is Valheim. With an entire sandbox mode rolled out to creative players and a whole ocean of possibilities to explore, the ingenious minds behind the Viking chapter have managed to keep players on their toes non-stop for four weeks straight. That's more than 35 million hours combined on Twitch, funnily enough.

What do the Valheim creators have to say about the success of the game?

“Valheim continues to attract critical and player acclaim, with over 115,000 positive user reviews on Steam,” Iron Gate and its publisher, Coffee Stain Publishing, wrote in their press release. “It has also been climbing the ranks of the 250 top reviewed games of all time on the platform, now sitting at number 39. On Twitch, Valheim has maintained a steady stream of viewers, and fans have now spent more than 35M hours watching Valheim gameplay, and over 16,266 years playing.”

Currently idling at number four on the Steam charts, Valheim shares the leaderboard with Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Dota 2 and PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds. Though, at this rate, it's looking like Valheim will reclaim the top spot in a matter of days. Either way, it's become evident as to which game has made the biggest mark on the gaming platform. And to think — this really is only the beginning of a long and fruitful journey.
