If you’ve ever found yourself at a bit of loose end, and perhaps, without the utensils needed to syphon out the trendiest games on Steam, then I come bearing good news: Steambase.io is making moves to bring all of that juicy data to your front door via its nifty analytics platform. To learn a bit more about the suite, as well as what its future holds, we decided to catch up with Lucas Wyland, founder of Steambase.

Thanks for taking the time to speak with us, Lucas. Tell us a bit about yourself. How did it all start for you, and what fueled your passion for gaming?

Lucas: It all started when I was 14 years old. I used to love gaming and improvising on the games I played. I started creating flash games and apps for my friends and family. I was an avid PC gamer who used to play for 14 to 16 hours a day. I have many hours of League of Legend racked up and three PC builds under my belt. My passion of games took concrete shape when I graduated from Missouri University of Science and Technology in 2018 with a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and an emphasis on distributed system. My passion for gaming led me to build and launch Steambase, a data and analytics platform to help give gamers insights into their favorite games on Steam.

Let’s move on to your analytics platform, Steambase. What is it, and what sorts of services does it provide?

Lucas: Steambase is a data and analytics platform that helps give gamers insights into their favorite games on Steam. Steambase helps people navigate the world of PC gaming on Steam. Steambase has the necessary tools for everyone, whether you are an individual looking for a deal on your next game purchase or an indie game developer doing market research on your next title, or a YouTuber creating a mini-documentary about your favorite game.

Steambase [is a] massive database which tracks and updates stats in real-time for every single game on the Steam platform. It allows us to track and build various tools for gamers, including:

  • Concurrent player counter for people in-game
  • Price change history tracker for every game on the Steam store
  • Game review trends over time from both the Steam store and external sites
  • Suite of 3rd party add-ons for other platforms, such as our Steam Sale Tracker, Discord Bot, Bot for Slack, and Better Steam Chrome extension.

And where did this idea come from? Or better yet, what inspired you to compile this volume of data, to begin with?

Lucas: I found out that gamers had the skill and the talent to be innovative in their playing methods. But, they lacked access to a consolidated data pool that could help them analyze and provide insights on their favorite games. Similarly, game developers had to struggle to research to find the right title for their next game. Steambase compiles a massive database to become the leading destination for video game insights and all things Steam. As a result, gamers, developers, and YouTube marketers can explore games, develop, bundle, sell, and do much more – all in a single place.

Steam is, of course, an ever-evolving platform, too. Tell us, do you find it difficult to keep track of a lot of what’s coming and going?

Lucas: No, that is not a problem because my passion for gaming and developing encourages me to track what’s coming, remains in trend, and what’s going. I have been in the gaming and development field for more than 15 to 16 years, and know the industry inside-out.

The value we provide to the gaming community comes from the quality of data we offer. Steambase has the best-in-class data powered by Steam, our data partners, and in-house experts. Data is enriches, cleansed, verified, and updated in real-time to ensure we surface the most up-to-date gaming insights.

Before integrating with a new data source, we undergo a rigorous evaluation process to ensure information is secure. This process includes cross referencing data points against other sources, ensuring it is available for all Steam games, and it is regularly updated.

Are you looking to expand on the database at any point in 2024 at all? Are there any major updates currently in the pipeline that we should know about?

Lucas: Updating is a regular aspect of our platform. We must adapt to the latest technologies and keep pace with them to ensure our gamers get the most valuable insights on their favorite games.

What’s the best way to stay up to date with Steambase? Are there any social channels or relevant newsletters that might help potential visitors to locate their next game?

Lucas: You can always access our website https://steambase.io for the latest developments. Besides, we are active on Twitter, Discord, LinkedIn and GitHub. You can also get in touch with us directly via [email protected].

As something of a curator of Steam projects, do you have a favorite game to recommend? If you had to name just the one, what would it be, and why?

Lucas: I do not have any single favorite game because I love all the games on the Steam platform. Presently, the most played games include Counter-Strike 2, Dota 2, Destiny 2, and MultiVersus.

Any final words for our readers?

Lucas: I would love to wish all our readers a happy gaming experience. I also advise them to be safe and vigilant when sharing confidential data on social media platforms because you never know where the next hack could come from.

Thanks for your time!
