Moviehouse: The Film Studio Tycoon — Everything We Know

Odyssey Studios has officially built a gateway to Hollywood with its all-new business management sim, Moviehouse: The Film Studio Tycoon. According to the devs, players will have the opportunity to manage their very own studio—a colorful world in which every aspect of the filmmaking process will be tailored by you and you alone.

The good news is, the proposed PC exclusive isn't all that far off from its release window. Matter of fact, both movie enthusiasts and all-round creatives will be able to get their hands on it as early as April 5, 2023. But if you're interested in learning a bit more about it before making that all-important pre-order, then be sure to read on for all the key details. Ready to grace the Hollywood Hall of Fame? Here's everything you need to know before strolling the red carpet.

What Is Moviehouse: The Film Studio Tycoon?

Moviehouse: The Film Studio Tycoon is exactly what it says it is: a tycoon game in which you're able to play the overhead in the movie empire—a public figure who has the power to pull the strings from the business end, as well as control the day-to-day lives of an entire production crew. It's your role, as said puppeteer, to work your way through the eras, and essentially redefine the movie biz on a rags-to-riches journey from a wannabe filmmaker to a full-fledged master of the arts.

“Ready the camera, unleash your creativity and create the flicks you’ve always dreamed of,” the blurb reads in part. “Grow your operation with your razor-sharp business sense and usher in a new era for filmmakers worldwide…or fail trying. After all, this business is like a box of chocolates—you never know what you’re gonna get.”

Story

Moviehouse bases its narrative around a simple rags-to-riches blueprint—a stepping stone structure that you, the creator, will have to ascend as you go from having mere pennies to your name, to millions in assets and box office revenue. Much like real life, you will begin your journey with a small set, a crew of volunteers, and a low-budget script. From here, you will need to climb the ladder and produce better movies that will, at least after a fair while, nudge you towards a world with higher payouts, better actors, and more exclusive perks.

“Experience the decades – start with a small film crew in the 80s, develop your first short-film, and taste the sweet nectar of box office revenue,” the blurb adds. “When your enterprise expands, you’ll create better movies, hire a larger crew, and, of course, need a bigger boat!”

Gameplay

According to Odyssey Studios, players will not only have to develop award-winning movies on set, but also hire a team of writers, directors, and studio hands to help achieve optimal creative output. In the same style as most tycoon-like sims, you'll have to divide your time between managing finances, scouting for quality cast and crew members, and chalking up Hollywood-worthy movies for the public to consume and critique.

As far as developing movies go, Moviehouse will hand you the keys to a world of adventure—a plateau of creativity that boasts countless customization options and pathways for you to pursue. Whatever your preference in genre—be it action, drama, or romance—The Film Studio Tycoon will pretty much give you the tools to develop and produce whatever your heart desires.

“Use your wits to outsmart the competition and leverage your intuition to spot the next hit-genre at the box office,” the blurb adds. “Win prizes at events, take the biggest slice of the pie, and become the most successful studio Hollywood’s ever seen.”

Development

Odyssey Studios, a relatively small outfit that found its feet just a year or so back, announced Moviehouse: A Film Studio Tycoon back in 2022. Since then, the team has kept avid followers up to speed via its devlogs over on Steam, most of which have gone on to highlight its new gameplay tweaks and effects. And not just that, but also to shed light on a couple of trailers—two of which released earlier this month.

It's hard to say whether or not the game will be heading to consoles, though from the looks of things, PC users will bag exclusive rights from the get-go. And on that note, you can expect to see it arrive on both Steam and GOG on April 5, 2023.

Moviehouse - The Film Studio Tycoon | Gameplay Trailer | Release Date Reveal

Odyssey Studios brought a rather nifty gameplay trailer to the table just last week, which helped paint a much more extravagant portrait of the gameplay features movie buffs will have the opportunity to delve into. You can check it out for yourself in the embed above.

Release Date, Platforms & Editions

Moviehouse: The Film Studio Tycoon will be coming to PC and iOS via Steam and GOG on April 5, 2023. Does that technically mean it won't be coming to consoles, then? Well, at the moment, no. But that doesn't mean Odyssey Studios won't entertain the idea in the weeks, months, or maybe even years following its formal release.

Unfortunately for avid video game collectors, Odyssey Studios hasn't lifted the veil on any form of special or deluxe editions outside of the standard version. This could very well change, though it often boils down to how much traction the game or product in question attracts. Here's hoping there'll be something of the sort, anyway.
