Mortal Kombat 12: What’s Happening?

Well, turns out Mortal Kombat 12 is shaping up for an eventual 2023 release, after all. But what's actually happening with it?

In what can only be described as one of the most unimaginative ways to stoke the hype train, Warner Bros. Discovery has announced the twelfth chapter in the universally acclaimed Mortal Kombat saga. Unfortunately for us, neither Discovery nor NetherRealm, its developer, have shed light on anything whatsoever, which has now led us to believe that a 2023 launch may be a slightly too optimistic.

As it stands, Mortal Kombat 12 is just a carcass—a big ol' pile of bones without any meat. With no trailers, formal announcements, and a questionably vacant Twitter feed to boot, the game itself is next to non-existent. And yet, even without all that many details to go, Warner Bros. Discovery appears confident in its recently published quarterly earnings call, and the point has been chalked up in black and white; Mortal Kombat 12 is coming in 2023.

Will Mortal Kombat 12 Release in 2023?

Spotted by Twitter user Wario64, the clip from the earnings call saw Andrew Slabin of Warner Bros. Discovery mention the instalment. Strangely enough, though, it wasn't quite the power move fans of the series were expecting to see. On the contrary, it was mentioned in passing, and as part of a much bigger announcement.

“And there’s lots more to come, including the highly-anticipated Mortal Kombat 12 and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, games also set for release this year with ambitious launch projections,” Slabin stated during the earnings call.

Of course, as we're only two months through the year, there's still plenty of time to build something of a marketing campaign around Mortal Kombat 12. That said, with Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League hogging the spotlight over on social media—as it probably will continue to do so until its May launch—Warner Bros. probably won't shift its attention over until after it has settled. As for when it will actually release is still anybody's guess though.
