Remember The Eye, and how it saw its protagonist navigating a series of horrifying memories in the aftermath of an eye transplant? Well, as it turns out, Dollhouse: Behind the Broken Mirror isn’t all that different, in the case that, story-wise, it’ll carve out the tale of one person’s memories—a former singer, of all people, who has fallen into a deep case of amnesia in the wake of an ill-timed collapse on stage. This, in short, is what the upcoming first-person psychological horror will be looking to encapsulate: a wild romp through the newly created reality of an amnesiac who’s been forced to sip from a goblet of questionable practices.

At it currently stands, we don’t actually know when Dollhouse: Behind the Broken Mirror will be releasing on its chosen platforms. With that said, if we have caught your interest, then be sure to read on for a few quick updates. Here’s everything we can tell you about Grindstone and Indigo Studios’ upcoming psychological horror.

What Is Dollhouse: Behind the Broken Mirror?

From what we’ve gathered so far, Dollhouse: Behind the Broken Mirror will feature something of a thrilling memoir about one desperate patient’s struggles to overcome a series of psychological issues as brought forth by a medicinal substance. The drug, which will play a crucial role in the protagonist, Eliza’s, journey, will not only manipulate the memories of the former singer, but lead her down a rabbit hole that poses far more questions than answers.

In the words of its creators, “Dollhouse: Behind the Broken Mirror is a terrifying first-person horror adventure game that tells a dark and mysterious story in a cinematic style.”

“Enter the broken mind of Eliza de Moor, a once-celebrated singer, now trapped in the labyrinth of her own forgotten memories,” the description adds. “Will you be able to piece together the mystery of your past, or will you get lost in this dark and twisted reality?”

Story

Dollhouse: Behind the Broken Mirror will paint the portrait of a “once-celebrated” singer, whose life has taken a turn for the worse in the aftermath of a dramatic fall during a live performance. As a result of an alluring case of amnesia, Eliza, now trapped between two realities, is suddenly at the hand of a new form of experimental medicine—a practice that, while not entirely effective, is likely to recreate some form of memory, for better or worse.

Unsurprisingly, you will follow Eliza as she learns to cope with the effects of the questionable medicinal practices. “As Eliza, you’ll navigate the reality and the world behind the broken mirror, guided by the effects of the drug. This journey will lead you to the remains of your childhood home in Ravenhill, the Dollhouse Mansion, where unspeakable horrors await.”

Gameplay

Unfortunately, not a great deal is known about the gameplay elements that Dollhouse: Behind the Broken Mirror will look to employ. Having said that, as it’ll be a psychological horror, we can naturally expect to see our fair share of navigational curveballs and one or two environmental puzzles, to round just a couple of things from the top of our heads. It’s also likely that it’ll feature some form of stealth, if not during its cat-and-mouse chase sequences, then in its strict “tiptoeing only” moments.

“Your decisions matter in Dollhouse: Behind the Broken Mirror, shaping the outcome of Eliza’s journey and determining her ultimate fate,” the game’s description adds. “With multiple endings, every choice carries weight, and every action has consequences. Will you unravel the mystery unharmed, or will you fall victim to the horrors that lurk within?”

“Along the way, you’ll come across various puzzles that guard the secrets of Eliza’s past,” the blurb elaborates. “Each puzzle seamlessly integrates into the narrative, adding a blend of suspense and intrigue. Uncover the truth by gathering clues and solving puzzles scattered throughout the ghastly landscape.”

To answer the question of whether or not Dollhouse: Behind the Broken Mirror is connected to SOEDESCO‘a Dollhouse — yes, it is. Aside from the two projects sharing the same label, though, it appears that the upcoming story won’t tie in with the first. To this end, you won’t need to understand the original in order to make heads or tails of Behind the Broken Mirror. Or at least, that’s what we’ve been led to believe, anyway.

As a reminder, Dollhouse: Behind the Broken Mirror will launch under two banners: Grindstone, and Indigo Studios. As it stands, neither of the two firms have announced a concrete release date for the game.

Release Date, Platforms & Editions

Pistol combat (Dollhouse: Behind the Broken Mirror)

Dollhouse: Behind the Broken Mirror is currently set to launch on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam at some point in 2024. Going by this, it’s safe to say that the game probably won’t be arriving on the likes of Xbox One or PlayStation 4. As for whether or not there’ll be a Switch port, however, is still a bit of a mystery.

It’s a little too early to say whether or not there’ll be any special editions of Dollhouse: Behind the Broken Mirror, what with it still being mostly under wraps. However, if either Grindstone or Indigo Studios were to announce something of the sort, then it’d likely be at some point over the next several months; Q2 2024, if we’re lucky. But don’t take our word on that, though.
