Updated on

Horror games are simply a frighteningly fun time. Full of different creeps and ghouls and various scares, these games are meant to get inside the head of the player and cause fear. While everyone can boot up a spooky game, a few titles stand above and beyond others regarding scares. Whether it is a more psychological experience or simply the shock of having a creepy creature frighten you, something about these games continues to draw players in. So without further ado, here is our list of the 5 Best Co-op Horror Games of All Time, Ranked.

5. Phasmophobia

Phasmophobia is a cooperative psychological horror game that will frighten players. Players must face the frights of various haunted locations to survive in this title. In addition, players are tasked with gathering evidence on the paranormal in these tense situations. Finally, players will be able to use different pieces of equipment to battle with the ghosts and ghouls within the game. Knowing how to use this equipment is vital to player survival in this game.

Along with simply surviving, players will also have to worry about their sanity, as there is a sanity meter within the game. This sanity slowly dwindles as the players play through the gaming, making the game a balancing act the longer you play it. The game features a four-player co-op for a rousing good time with friends. Equipment is also imperative to a player's survival because if a player were to die, they would lose all of their equipment, making the game infinitely more difficult. Phasmophobia is a blast to play with friends and a fantastic co-op horror game.

4. Dead By Daylight

PlayStation 5 Horror Games

Dead By Daylight is a game that has taken the horror streaming scene by storm. The game tasks various players with facing a killer in this isometric multiplayer title. The killer will have the ability to end the lives of all the characters around, but the victims will have numbers on their side. How players use their numbers becomes extremely important in this game. The game features monsters and creature crossovers with various horror titles adding to its mass appeal.

This is not the only way the game incorporates various locations from horror. However, many locations and characters are pulled directly from the horror movies that inspired the game. Players are tasked with escaping whatever killer might be filling in that role for the day. This can prove rather tricky as the killer typically has special powers that make it easier to hunt down all survivors. All in all, Dead By Daylight is a game full of content for players to enjoy regardless of what type of horror they want. Its isometric game design contributes to teamwork and communication, making it an excellent co-op horror game.

3. 7 Days to Die

7 Days to Die is a game that has garnered a cult following amongst its player base. The game has been described as a survival crafting game and was a pioneer in its respective genre. The game throws you into a zombie-infested wasteland where you must survive with your friends. To do this, you must scavenge the surrounding areas for materials. Zombies become faster at night, and a red moon will appear every seventh day. Worse yet, each time you die, you can respawn, but you will lose your entire inventory. To get it back, you need to head to the location of your demise and pick it back up.

During the red moon, zombies attack your location in waves until sunrise. This makes one of the game's main focuses being able to survive the weekly onslaught of the undead. You will also notice that every day gets a bit more challenging to contend with as the game operates on a sliding difficulty scale that resets after the red moon. Even rooftops aren't safe as some zombies will climb to you, and others will dig through the ground in an attempt to destroy your party. This makes it one of the best Co-Op horror games you can find.

2 Resident Evil 6

Resident evil re:verse

Resident Evil 6 is a game with four different paths to play through. You can play through the paths with a friend in each of these. However, this game does walk away from the horror vibes, as it feels more action-oriented. Still, character favorites from the series are present, helping players feel more at home. Players can also select from various difficulties to play on, and the missions are highly replayable.

While this isn't a game you will be playing for months, it's a great cheap choice. There's still zombie action to dive into, but if the horror vibes of the rest of the series make you squeamish, then you will find a nice balance in Resident Evil 6. This is a great title to pick up for a gaming weekend or even around Halloween when searching for a low-cost game that fits the spooky theme.
