Best Wrestling games

The WWE, as exaggerated and played out as it might be, provides some very spectacular, high-flying wrestling entertainment. From gravity-defying drops to bone-crushing hits, it's a mystery how these warriors manage to get back up and continue fighting. That's why you'll never see us in the ring delivering an RKO out of nowhere, since we'd almost surely be on the receiving end, and we'll tell you right now that would surely conclude our night. Nonetheless, if you want to get the most out of wrestling mania without straining or injuring yourself, we best advise you to try out the best wrestling games in this list.

Each of these games brings wrestling to our screens in its most magnificent form, and some take it to even more unbound extremes. That way, you may enjoy the bone-crushing action of wrestling without having to struggle through the pain yourself, aside from the straining of your fingers from button-mashing. Nonetheless, if you want to prove to your pals who is the toughest in the ring, these are the five best Wrestling games to do so with on next-gen.

5. RetroMania Wrestling

RetroMania Wrestling | Official Game Trailer!

To kick things off we have RetroMania Wrestling, which is available for both Xbox Series X|S and PS5, however, via backwards compatibility. Done in a 2D arcade style, RetroMania Wrestling incorporates four game modes, including a story mode. However, if that's too easy for you, then you can play with your friends in a versus match with up to four players. Or, really push the envelope in eight-man tag matches, seeing you and four of your friends take on the AI.

RetroMania Wrestling features over 16 characters, all playable across the game's 15 unique arenas. Of course, this includes the infamous cage match. The game wouldn't be complete without all of the high-flying maneuvers we've come to love from wrestling, as well as the occasional chair or pipe if you decide to take the fight outside the ring. As far as 2D-style arcade wrestling games go, this is surely one of the best picks for next-gen consoles.

4. WWE 2K Battlegrounds

WWE 2K Battlegrounds - Official Trailer | PS4

WWE 2K Battlegrounds is another wrestling game that's available on Xbox Series X|S and PS5; via backwards compatibility for the latter. But, for those wanting the most over-the-top wrestling action you can get, WWE 2K Battlegrounds is the game to deliver it. Featuring the WWE's most notorious wrestlers throughout the years, WWE 2K Battlegrounds pushes their signature moves to new and unforeseen heights. Each character has their own exaggerated maneuvers, special abilities, and even power-ups that elevate the game to an unseen degree of wrestling prowess.

The game features a story mode, Royal Rumble, Fatal Four Way, and the Battlegrounds Challenge. To go along with that, WWE 2K Battlegrounds has online and local versus play. However, if that's still not enough, to top everything off you can customize your own wrestler, fit with their own moves, abilities, and power-ups. So, if you want the most over-the-top action you can get, WWE 2K Battlegrounds is one of the best wrestling games for it.

3. Rumbleverse

Have you ever wanted to Suplex someone from the top floor of a skyscraper? In Rumbleverse, you can do just that. Developed by Epic Games, Rumbleverse is a wrestling battle royale. Essentially, you drop into the map and gather books to learn new moves; each differs in effectiveness, type, and damage. These include insane slams, punch or kick combos, poison attacks, stuns, and even moves to launch players off the map. Not to mention your ultimate super move, which will usually K.O. a player in one hit.

The best aspect is that you can do them anywhere, at any time, even from the top of a building for a spectacular free-fall collision against the pavement, which never gets old. You level up your character by consuming health, energy, and attack pots in order to increase your damage and overall stats in the late game. There are also garbage cans, street signs, and baseball bats at your disposal too. Overall, Rumbleverse is one of the most original wrestling games to hit both next-gen consoles.

2. Action Arcade Wrestling

Action Arcade Wrestling - Launch | PS4

Want to fight as the Grim Reaper, a Zombie, or Santa Claus in a wrestling game? The cast of wrestlers in Action Arcade Wrestling is comprised of more than 30 wrestlers, some of which are far more strange than the ones we named. In fact, you can create your own wrestlers in Action Arcade Wrestling, and even choose from hundreds of user-generated wrestlers to download and play as. Without a question, Action Arcade Wrestling features the most wrestlers of any game on this list, and thusly, the most ways to vary how you want to fight in the ring.

In terms of gameplay, Action Arcade Wrestling is a good blend of the first two games on our list. It has some really outrageous moves, similar to WWE 2K Battlegrounds, yet it can also have the same simplicity and composure as RetroMania Wrestling. But, with tons of creative ways to take out your opponent, and a variety of game modes, Action Arcade Wrestling is one of the best wrestling games to date, and we highly recommend trying it. Which you can on Xbox Series X|S, as well as PS5, though, via Backwards compatibility.

1. WWE 2K22

WWE 2K22 - Official Gameplay Trailer

Filled with iconic WWE wrestlers you already know and love, including all of their infamous taglines, finishing moves, and celebrations. You can take the fight to the top ropes, a ladder, or a cage match. The game is available on both next-generation consoles and comes with a tonne of extra DLC to change up your characters, arenas, and fights. Nonetheless, at the end of the day, 2K's WWE wrestling series remains one of the best wrestling games for next-generation consoles.
