No matter how smart AI gets, you can never replicate the unpredictability of playing against another human. Whether locally or online, PvP games will often lead down paths you’ll forever remember.

Strong emotions often surge during plays, especially in competitive PvP games like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III and Tekken 8, where wins and losses are taken personally. Not to mention MMOs like Destiny 2, where you’ll find new friends from all around the world sharing the same passions.

I’ve done a pretty decent job of rounding up the best PvP games on PlayStation 5, so be sure to stick around till the end.

What is a PvP Game?

Dhalsmi

A PvP is a player versus player game in full, and it means pitting one player against another, or, in the case of teams, one team competes against another. Your objectives may vary depending on the genre, but often you’ll engage in combat while competing to nab the best loot and capture strongholds on a map.

Best PvP Games on PlayStation

PlayStation 5 is definitely a great place to be looking for opponents, where you’ll almost always find someone to compete with. Be sure to choose the best PvP games on PlayStation 5, offering satisfying battles.

10. Destiny 2

Ask me what I’m doing Friday night, I’m probably in the Sol System, exploring all of its planets, moons, and humanity’s last safe haven. Destiny 2 has become my new home, not just because its Light and Darkness saga gives me the chills corresponding to our own struggles with good versus evil, but also the many PvP skirmishes it has for endless online sessions.

Guardians go up against each other in teams of six, competing on who can rack up the most kills or hold strongholds the longest. You can set matches to have limited respawns and keep at it until it’s clear whose tactical prowess is goated. Your gear and weapons are snappy, weighty, and punchy, ensuring every single moment feels ecstatic to be a part of.

9. Smite

If I were a god, I probably would understand how it feels to SMITE the living breath out of anyone who dares challenge me. And the gods who’ll challenge you will be from all walks of life and mythology.

Over 100 gods are available for players to choose from. So, you can imagine the level of chaos and extraordinary powers that will be flying across your screen. And it’ll all be supercharged with earth-shattering powers that make you truly feel like a god.

8. Hell Let Loose

Perhaps you want the games that build up their intensity over time. That’s Hell Let Loose for you, a military combat game in an open zone, where at any moment, you might run into enemies, and a shootout begins.

It’s a great balance of intensity versus relief, when you’re brutally taken out by an enemy you hardly anticipate, in contrast to the moments of running around looking for prey. Like a cat-and-mouse game, almost, on the iconic battlegrounds of the Western Front, Omaha Beach, Foy, and more.

7. Hunt: Showdown

At nightfall, the night begins. Who among you will put on the greatest show? Who among bounty hunters whose thirst for blood doesn’t stop at monsters, but other bounty hunters as well. Interestingly, Hunt: Showdown 1896 allows you to team up with other bounty hunters. And that’s perfectly welcome because some of the nightmarish monsters have staggering bounties that will take your everything to win.

6. Fortnite

Venture into Fortnite with a strategy. It’s a big, big world out there, and while it shrinks, you’ll have lots of crafting and resource management opportunities to finesse your loadout and gear. Thereafter, encounters get tighter and tighter, finally determining who really is the best player of them all.

5. The Finals

I’m still unsure what’s more fun. To be watching players destroy one another in a massive arena or actually be a part of the mayhem. Probably the latter, despite how brutal opponents can get, thanks to destruction physics.

The Finals practically allow you to go crazy, destroying walls, ceilings, and even entire buildings as offense and defense strategies. You can make makeshift weapons from the environment, too, or traps and hazards, beyond the traditional tactical combat.

4. Street Fighter 6

I’d be remiss not to include Street Fighter 6 among the best PvP games on PlayStation 5. It’ll forever remain the ultimate way to gauge yourself against your opponent, when you can even have contenders come couch-compete with you.

And Street Fighter is simply one of those fighting games that has perfected its craft, featuring a massive, diverse roster, and accessible mechanics with depth.

3. Tekken 8

An alternative fighting game I have for you is Tekken 8. Now this one is for the pros, the next-level competitive PvP that will easily onboard you through its mechanics. But afterward, the combat system will throw you to the wolves, encouraging brutal, fast-paced plays. The series further reinvents itself, adding the new Heat mechanic. This temporarily powers up your character.

The advantages are varied, like Heat Dashes when extending combos, and Heat Smashes for damage, encouraging more experimentation and replayability. Plus, you can use both Heat Dash and Heat Smash, as long as it’s within the ten seconds the power-up lasts.

2. Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege

As far as team-on-team PvP matches go, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege is one of the best action combat experiences you’ll ever play. You group into elite teams and engage in realistic and tactical shooting missions, where planning and follow-through of your attacks and defenses determine who wins the close-quarters 5v5 combat scenarios.

And the scenarios you’ll be playing through are different as well, from rescuing hostages to defusing bombs.

With only one life per round, the stakes are even higher than ever. You have little room to make mistakes, maximizing your team’s unique strengths and abilities, all while enjoying the delightful environmental destruction.

1. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III

At least in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, you can rest assured of always finding online players at all skill levels. The franchise has invested in diverse game modes as well, pioneering popular PvP modes like deathmatch in classic maps like Rust.

PvP matches can be as quick or lengthy as you like, with options for large-scale battles, where you tackle resource management, vehicular combat, and fight human as well as AI-controlled opponents.

Outside the matches, you’ll have a blast making your loadout and gear perfectly suited to upcoming tasks, with deep customization, plenty of perks, and daily challenges with lots of progression rewards.
