The following adaptations were nominated tonight, Castlevania: Nocturne, Gran Turismo, The Last of Us, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and Twisted Metal.  The Last of Us took home the win for Best Adaptation of 2023 tonight and helps to pave the way for more video game adaptations in the future.

The Last of Us Wins Best Adaptation at The Game Awards 2023

Adapting video games to TV and movie screens has been nothing short of a challenge. With so many failed attempts to adapt critically acclaimed franchises, the ones that do pull through are something special. The Last of Us adopted the gritty story of the game of the same name. With Pedro Pascal taking up the role of Joal and Bella Ramsey becoming Ellie, the main cast couldn't have been in better hands. The script itself was stellar, getting it critic and viewer approval upon release. The other nominees were also made up of industry titans. This included The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which sold out theaters for weekends after it's release. For The Last of Us to overcome these opponents is an incredibly special moment for the team.
