Tekken 8 Officially Announced, Gameplay Trailer Released
Tekken 8 has been announced with a gameplay trailer revealed. Bandai Namco officially revealed the game during the recent Sony State of Play Livestream.
Tekken veterans Jin Kazama and Kazuya Mishima engaged in a brawl in the first trailer for the game. The trailer appears to be a pre-rendered cinematic. However, according to the game director Katsuhiro Harada in a post on the PlayStation blog, it actually features footage generated in real-time on the PlayStation 5. Although Harada claims that the footage is from a draft of Tekken 8's story mode, it doesn't necessarily mean that it represents actual gameplay.
“This trailer was actually taken directly from a certain part in the current work-in-progress Tekken 8’s story mode, played on PlayStation 5. In other words, all the character models, backgrounds, and effects are the same ones that are used in-game,” Harada said.
Bandai Namco, the publisher of the game first teased the new Tekken game during the
Livestream at Evo 2022. The Livestream featured a short video of Kazuya. While the teaser at Evo 2022 did not reveal the title of the game nor mention Tekken 8, the series has not had a new game for the last seven years. Tekken 7 launched in 2015 and has since received several recurring DLC updates. The reveal of Tekken at the State of play, therefore, serves as the official reveal of the game.
Bandai Namco did not reveal a release date for Tekken 8. The publisher has asked fans to stay tuned for details and information. Although the publisher announced the game at a Playstation Livestream, the game is not a PS5 exclusive. The game has subsequently been confirmed on the Xbox Series X|S, PC through Steam, and other platforms
