Poppy Playtime Chapter 3: Deep Sleep — Everything We Know

Mob Entertainment’s Poppy Playtime is on the verge of once again extending its Huggy Wuggy arms to ex-employees and rogue plushies all over the globe in its forthcoming chapter, Poppy Playtime Chapter 3: Deep Sleep. Not sure what the latest endeavor will entail? Here’s everything you need to know about the third chapter in the survival-horror series.

What is Poppy Playtime: Deep Sleep

Poppy Playtime: Deep Sleep is the third chapter in the first-person survival-horror series by Mob Entertainment, and the direct sequel to 2022’s Poppy Playtime Chapter 2. The upcoming game, which has yet to receive a concrete release date, will once again transport its players back to the twisted corridors of Playtime Co.—a once-abandoned toy factory that went on to become the home for a swarm of rogue plushies and animatronics. As the ever-intuitive avatar, you will need to suit up with your trusty GrabPack and romp through the next set of obstacles and biomes that Huggy Wuggy and team have left out for you, all while unearthing the truth behind the once-thriving toy manufacturing company.

In the same vein as the first two chapters, Deep Sleep will rely on a mixture of puzzles and exploration to construct its narrative, along with a series of nail-biting hide-and-seek scenarios that will see you going toe-to-toe with the series’ primary antagonists. Sure enough, it’ll be creepy, atmospheric, and bursting with obstacles to overcome—three things we’ve come to expect from Poppy Playtime since its 2021 debut.

Story

While details on the forthcoming sequel are still a little unclear, we do know that the story will pick up from where Chapter 2 concluded—aboard a train that was due to leave the toy factory, but due to the plushie’s desperate attempts to divert you course, wound up bringing you to yet another location in the Playtime Co. complex. And from the looks of the footage that was shown earlier this year, the next location in question will be Playcare—an on-site orphanage that holds far more questions than answers, and not to mention the root of all evil and even a new antagonist, to boot.

As of this moment, one can only assume that the player will be tasked with venturing deep into the aforementioned orphanage, and essentially unearthing the secrets behind the history of Playtime Co., as well as its sadistic products. What’s more, as the trailer also highlights a series of gas masks, it could be that the so-called Playcare was once a front for a much darker, more sinister secret. And if we are on the money with this, then you can definitely expect to be the one to unravel the truth and put two and two together.

Gameplay

Deep Sleep won’t deviate all that far from the original gameplay blueprint: it’ll be a survival-horror at heart, which means you can still expect to witness the same jump scares, puzzles, and room-to-room exploration that bulked out the first two chapters. Again, from the sounds of the elevator pitch that was teased earlier this year, the vast majority of the gameplay will be experienced from within the grounds of the orphanage. As for whether or not you’ll have the opportunity to venture back to the toy factory is still unclear, though from the looks of it, Playcare will be a stepping stone towards yet another anchor point—a place that will become clearer in 2024’s fourth chapter. But more on that later.

Mob Entertainment first announced its plans to bring the third chapter to the ever-popular survival-horror series back in August 2022, roughly three months after launching Poppy Playtime Chapter 2. Unlike its first two chapters, both of which launched roughly seven or eight months apart, the upcoming episode will release a little later, which leads us to believe that the DLC will be slightly bigger than the last two chapters. Either that, or the devs have been going above and beyond to assure that the final outcome meets their highest expectations.

As it stands, we don’t actually know when Poppy Playtime will draw its final breath. From the looks of its Wiki, though, there’ll be a fourth chapter releasing at some point in 2024. So, if you thought we’d seen the last of Huggy Wuggy and friends — then think again.

Release Date, Platforms & Editions

At the time of writing, Mob Entertainment has only suggested that the next chapter in the series will be launching in Winter 2023, and that it will be arriving on Android, iOS, and PC via Steam. According to the Wiki, however, fans of the series can expect it to arrive  a little sooner; the fan-created page mentions a loose November release window. However, as for how reliable this particular handle is is unclear, so be sure to take it with a grain of salt.

Edition-wise, Deep Sleep will be available as a standard digital-only copy, which will launch across PC and mobile. It is worth pointing out that Deep Sleep will be a DLC, which means you’ll need to have the base game purchased in order to play the latest episode.
