Switch Games Coming Out in September

Behind Nintendo's mainstream titles like The Legend of Zelda, Mario Kart, and Super Smash Bros., hides a sea of intriguing indies just waiting to be discovered. Unfortunately, most of these games don't get the same publicity as the mainstream titles and hence tend to fly under the radar. However, that's exactly why we're bringing you this list of the most anticipated Switch games coming out in September 2023. That way, you get the inside scoop on Nintendo's newest and hottest titles, not just their biggest releases. So keep reading to find out which Switch games will be turning heads this September.

5. Chants of Sennaar

Chants of Sennaar - Announcement Trailer - Nintendo Switch

Beautiful in presentation and art style, Chants of Sennaar looks like an atmospheric indie we just can't wait to dive into. In this action-adventure platformer, you must “Observe, listen, and decipher ancient languages” across a myriad of puzzles and brain-teasers. Although that is a little sparse, we love a good sense of mystery. Plus, puzzles are all the more rewarding when we solve them from scratch, so we're going into this title open-minded.

In terms of narrative, the games Steam description states “Divided since the dawn of time, the Peoples of the Tower no longer speak to each other. But it is said that one day, a Traveler will find the wisdom to break down the walls and restore the Balance.” So, if we had to guess, you appear to be the lone Traveler seeking to restore equilibrium in this world. Regardless, Chants of Sennaar looks to be luring players into a colorful world full of tough decipher-based puzzles, which has resulted in the title being one of the most anticipated Switch games coming out this September.

4. Enchanted Portals

Enchanted Portals - Release Date Trailer

If you loved Cuphead, we've got another title of the same nature that is easily one of the most anticipated Switch games coming out in September. Enchanted Portals is a co-op 2D platformer that follows Bobby and Penny, two rookie magicians who are trapped between dimensions. Journeying through a variety of enchanting worlds, it's on them and their sub-par magic skills to help get them back home.

The gameplay looks fast, complicated, and jam-packed with chaotic boss battles that will leave your hands sore. However, that's exactly what many of us are seeking for. So, if you like 2D Platformers with a unique setting, Enchanted Portals appears to be the newest and most exciting contender in the genre. One that will hopefully compare to the likes of Cuphead, as it's no secret Enchanted Portals draws its inspiration from that title.

3. Cocoon

COCOON - Release Date Trailer - Nintendo Switch

What better pick for this list of the most anticipated Switch games coming out in September than Cocoon, a game that won “Most Anticipated Independent Game” at Summer Game Fest 2023? Developed by Jeppe Carlsen, the lead game designer from Limbo and Inside, “Cocoon takes you on an adventure across worlds within worlds. Master world-leaping mechanics and solve intricate puzzles to unravel a cosmic mystery.”

To elaborate, Cocoon is a unique adventure in which worlds reside in an orb that you carry on your back. As you travel between worlds, you'll come across strange ecosystems, unearth treasures and architecture from old civilizations, and figure out how they all fit together. However, explore with caution, as each world has a mighty guardian protecting it, and if they're aware of your presence, there's no avoiding the fight.

2. MythForce

MythForce - Announcement Trailer - Nintendo Switch

Mythforce is a swords and sorcery first-person RPG roguelike adventure inspired by Saturday morning cartoons. In this fantasy realm, you become a cartoon hero who must explore dungeons and castles alone or with up to four other players. But don't expect to soak hits like a cartoon character would. Because Mythforce is a roguelike, you will have to restart from the beginning each time you die, albeit a little stronger with each death. Nonetheless, it adds another layer to the challenge.

MythForce consists of four cartoon heroes to play: Victoria the valiant Knight, Rico the charming Rogue, Maggie the wise Mage, and Hawkins the deadly Hunter. Together, they are the one and only team that can “stand between Eldryth and the tyranny of the vampire lord, Deadalus. Will our heroes prevail against the many malevolent minions, tricks, and traps in his ever-changing dungeon?” We don't know yet, but you can find out for yourself on September 12th when MythForce releases.

Release Date: September 12, 2023

1. Mortal Kombat 1

Mortal Kombat 1 - Official Announcement Trailer

Mortal Kombat 1 is without a doubt one of the most anticipated Switch games coming out this September. The newest title in the long-running franchise appears to usher the series into a new era created by the Fire God Liu Kang. As a result, you can expect a whole new narrative, new game modes, a new fighting system, and, most importantly, new fatalities that are even more horrific and gory than before.

It's all arriving on September 14, so you don't have to contain your excitement much longer. Because when Mortal Kombat 1 releases, you can expect the button-mashing, trash talk, and pauses to look a combos and finisher moves all to be back on the menu. Nonetheless, of all the Switch titles arriving in September, this is the one that will get the most attention. All we can hope for now is that it plays as good as it looks.
