Illumination Studios Officially Reveal Super Mario Bros. Movie

Not that it was a secret or anything, but Illumination Studios has finally lifted the veil on the highly anticipated Super Mario Bros. Movie, giving it a short but compellingly sweet sneak preview for fans to gawp over while it gets its final patches.

If there's one thing we know about movie adaptations of popular video game franchises — it's that they're undeniably hit and miss. Just take a look back at the Sonic movie, for example, and you'll see what we're talking about. But Super Mario, being one of gaming's biggest heroes, is a whole other story. And given the fact that it's also one of the most popular sagas on the planet, we'd be lying if we said Illumination Studios didn't have the weight of the gaming world bulging down on its shoulders over its upcoming adaptation.

Anyway, there is good news to this minor concern of ours. Illumination Studios and Nintendo have, at long last, revealed the first trailer for the movie. Although not giving a great deal away in terms of plot, the preview did go on to showcase the animation style, along with two of the series' main characters, Mario and Bowser. Oh, and it also revealed that the title of the flick will be The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Go figure.

Illumination Studios and Nintendo announced during today's Nintendo Direct event that the animation for the movie is set to conclude next week. And therefore, if everything goes according to plan, the movie will release on its planned release date, which is April 7, 2023. Until then, we'll just have to hang fire and badger Nintendo for updates.
