Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged

The tiny cars on orange tracks are returning soon. This time, it was more violent and destructive than ever. After Hot Wheels Unleashed made its debut in 2021, racing lovers and the gaming industry as a whole were head over heels for it. It was the perfect entry that provided thrilling action at exhilarating speeds. Who would have thought driving those tiny cars towering over vast environments would turn out to be that much fun? If you’re craving the sequel, it’s official that Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged is coming.

Turbocharged will release on all major platforms on October 19th, 2023. But what else is factual information now? What’s the story and gameplay for the sequel? Are there editions you can add to your wishlist now? Read on our Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged – Everything We Know to find out.

What is Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged?

Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged

Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged is an upcoming online racing simulation game. It’s confirmed to release on October 19th, 2023. However, subscribers to the game’s Legendary edition can play the game for three days pre-release. Turbocharged is the sequel to the critically acclaimed Hot Wheels Unleashed 2021 racing game.

Turbocharged promises to pick up where its predecessor left off. However, developer Milestone has confirmed that the sequel will add new features to boost the experience. Some changes include new modes, an all-new story campaign, four original characters with their unique cutscenes, and, of course, new hot wheels to upgrade and customize to your liking.

Story

Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged

Among the new changes Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged will introduce is an all-new story campaign. Though I doubt most Hot Wheels fans are in it for the compelling stories. Still, the sequel introduces four original characters. Gradually, the title will unravel their traits and personalities via animated cutscenes in between races.

Gameplay

Much of the original gameplay will remain unchanged. However, developer Milestone is aiming to introduce more opportunities for destructive on-track racing. So, it’s not just getting to the finish line that players will focus on. Specifically, Milestone is introducing new traversal mechanics. You can double jump and dash forward or sideways. Depending on your playstyle, double jumping can help you get ahead of the competition. Or, you can explore new track shortcuts and jump onto them to cover less ground than your opponents. Or, simply use it to avoid obstacles along the way.

New Abilities

Dashing forward will likely give players a coveted nitro boost. You can use it to your advantage when your opponent least expects it. Or, dash sideways to skid past the competition. For more aggressive players, you can bash into the competition and slow them down. Which on the other side of things, means trying to evade the chaos and hazards. Overall, things are about to get all the more interesting. The stakes are definitely amping up just for the fun of it.

New Hot Wheels + Categories

Besides traversal, Milestone is adding some new hot wheels to the roster. You can now race motorcycles and ATVs. It makes sense given Milestone also develops the RIDE, Monster Energy Supercross, and MotoGP series. It doesn’t end there. Milestone has classified the hot wheels into categories, namely, Rocket, Balanced, Swift, Drifter, Off-Road, and Heavy Duty. In total, there are over 130 hot wheels you can choose from at launch. After launch, players can earn skill points and use them to customize their playstyles further. You can access perks or create unique Hot Wheel builds. It’s such an insane, spoilt-for-choice kind of racing, I can’t wait to get my hands on my favorites.

User-Generated Content

As far as environments go, players will race across five distinct worlds. If it feels too limited, don't worry. The freedom for players to create unique tracks returns. You’ll have access to a refined LiveryEditor that has more features than the last. Additionally, you can use the new Sticker Editor to create custom builds. User-generated content isn’t restricted by platform. You can access the creations of other players, regardless of platform. However, it remains unclear whether the creations from Hot Wheels Unleashed will be accessible in the sequel.

New Modes + Co-op

Milestone confirms there are new modes coming to Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged. For now, we don’t have information on the exact modes planned to be released. However, Milestone reassures fans that the modes will offer fun, challenging events curated around drifting, speed, and precision. There are also online and offline options, along with the game itself, which will feature local two-player split-screen for game nights.

Development

Milestone is a busy bee this year. Not only are they planning to release Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged in October, but also MotoGP 23 in July and RIDE 5 in August. Before that, Milestone launched Monster Energy Supercross 6 in March with great success. We can’t wait for October!
